2026 Team Japan (plus Milan Olympian final selection) announcement

26' Team Japan announcement -

Olympics, Team Japan

Men: Yuma Kagiyama; Shun Sato; Kao Miura
(Sub: 1Tomono Kazuki ; 2. Sota Yamamoto ; 3. Tatsuya Tsuboi )
Women: Kaori Sakamoto; Ami Nakai; Mone Chiba
(Sub: 1Rinka Watanabe ; 2. Yuna Aoki )
Pair: Miura/Kihara; Nagaoka/Moriguchi
ID: Yoshida/Morita (team event)

Yeah, yeah, yeah. We already knew the Olympic team. I wanna know 4CC, ladies World team, and junior men team. Japan….hurry it up and get on with it!

(Heh, I like how the team announcements are treated like a big deal and is its own separate event.)

Same team for Olympics and Worlds.
That's not surprising, I expect to see Worlds WD at a later date for the top athletes, but the only one I could see skipping is Kaori if she wins gold at the Olympics and Miura/Kihara because they both already have a World title. Everyone else is likely to go to try and win their first World title/medal in a depleted post-Olympics field.

Junior World Championship

Men: Rio Nakata; Taiga Nishino, Daiya Ebihara
(Sub: 1 Sena Takahashi; 2 Ryoto Mori)
Women: Mao Shimada; Mayuko Oka; Mei Okata
(Sub: 1 Sumika Kanazawa; 2 Yo Takagi)
ID: Yamashita/Nagata
(Sub: Shibayama/Kimura)
Pair: NA

LOL Hamada and Nakaniwa likely fought for this one. Mone and Ami both go to 4CC with the other spot going to Yuna Aoki.

Rinka first alternate for all major championships: Olys, Worlds, 4CC.

Kao gets 4CC with Kazuki and Sota.

It can go both ways. They didnt split Olympics and Worlds between Mana and Mai in 2022 but did it for Koko and Kanadai; Olympics and Worlds in 2018 were also split between Kaori and Wakaba.

None of this is too shocking although the choice of Yuna over Rinka for 4CC is a bit surprising. Also surprising that Mone, Ami, and Kao all want to go to 4CC.
Well, it's pretty clear which one JSF likes better when she lands her jumps. Also they always love people who gets invited to foreign ice shows since they get the cut- Yuna has Art on Ice shows lined up.
