2026 Canadian Nationals : Men's Long Program

Just turned on the stream in time to see Keegan. I'm glad as this is my first time seeing him live since he returned. He put on a good effort but of course all the doubles hurt him badly :frown: I think he just didn't have enough time to fully recover his level after the years he was retired.

But it must be said, Keegan is probably one of very few skaters out there (the only one even?) who keeps a full smile on for every single second of their skates. Regardless of how the skate goes, he keeps the performance and his skating simply brings joy and emotionally connects with people. It was clearly not the most impressive skate technically but in the end that didn't really matter and the audience stood up to applaud him.

The Olympic comeback dream is sadly over but I do hope this doesn't mean he will go back into retirement now. Hopefully. he is proud of his efforts and most importantly continues to skate next season. He is a special performer and it would be a shame to lose him again. Fingers crossed! :ghug:

Okay John Kim - the door is wide open for you!
Atta boy - get into those knees and edges. Nice fight from him and wonderful styling. Scaring the judges with that butterfly a bit.

Kim's spins really looking unimpressive after Matthews that's for sure... as well, there are lots of moments when I'm unsure whether he's made little stumbles or pauses, or if he's forgotten the choreography, or perhaps he's ahead of his music and kind of pausing to wait for it to catch up or something. Weird.

Okay, based on the ending, I'm going to guess he was ahead of his music on a number of occasions and hitting choreographic timing markers early, which would explain the hesitancy at times, including on the ending pose.

John…
You have to do better combos. Two double toes is giving points away

This will sadly fall short to Keegan due to lack of TES making up the PCS difference between him and Keegan

But, good competition for John

He was in his head a lot... He is learning how to perform at this level I think.
