2026 U.S. Nationals Gala Making The Team

Tomoko Hiwatashi: 201, 236, 237, 245, 230
Jason Brown: 257, 249, 239, 243

How exactly were Tomoki's results better all year than Jason's? Or are we blatantly lying now because Jason happens to be down because of a disastrous free skate which probably happened because of great pressure?
You can't compare scores from different competitions. Tomoki won a Grand Prix Medal and beat Jason at Nats. I don't need to lie. You need to calm down.

BOW classification is determined by literally comparing those scores. It's comparing their scores this season at GP and Challengers and Jason was also 2nd highest US guy at GP overall in 10th (as a side note)
Tomoki was able to score those particular scores. A medal at a GP (with a lower or similar score) and one domestic competition is not enough to bypass higher scores throughout the season at the same kind of comps. It literally shows their potential in actual international setting, therefore why Jason is first alternate and not Tomoki.
Quads and so many opportunities and still couldn't be above a 31 year old guy who struggled with triples. (I'm sorry, numbers don't lie)

Tomoki: two bronze medals at his Challengers, 4th and 9th at GP
Jason: bronze an silver at his Challengers, 4th and 5th at GP
bow determined by comparing scores and placements/medals

Versus one domestic competition with different scoring than ISU where Tomoki scored in the 240s with domestic inflating

I see we're hitting a new low when we try to explain one person's poor result because of great pressure. Everyone has great pressure in every discipline. Everyone. Some people focus under pressure, others fold. It's called sports.

I’m not at all sure Jason’s performance was due to pressure. He’s historically handled it pretty well. Could be equipment issues. Could be illness. We may never know.

That could well be a big factor for a very bad high stakes free skate, I don't see what's the low in having that opinion especially since it was disproportionately his worst FS of the season (while being pretty linear the rest of it).

You can nitpick at my imperfect take or tone, but that was not the point of my responses. The point was debunking that Tomoki should have been first alternate because he had better results than Jason all season when that is untrue and can be demonstrated by the data. The point is saying Tomoki won a GP medal, when he was 4th and 9th, is wrong, etc etc
And I do wish at least Tomoki was on the team (and at Worlds) because I think he deserved it even more than Naumov or even Torgashev with their international record this and last season. (But that's, again, a criteria discussion)

No one knows, of course, but I personally would guess that there was a wish to find an opportunity for Jacob Sanchez, an up-and-comer with buzz who finished fourth among the Senior Men
Lucius and Jacob are accomplished juniors recently competing senior. Lucius won a medal at JGPF. Jacob is a past JGPF champ and he skated well to win a pewter medal at '26 U.S. senior Nats -- he was .09 out of third place overall. Assignments are based on body of work stats. With only two spots, it's a no-brainer to send Lucius & Jacob to junior Worlds, the better to try and get 3 spots for the younger junior men next season.

Very good skater Sarina.
Remind me of younger Frolova, not sure about this transfer to Italy idea. Anna and Lara are both amazing, original and exciting. But frolova got her time to shine and so will Sarina
