2025-2026 Canadian Figure Skating

I just want to post here to mention that I’m a bit more optimistic about Canada’s chances for an Olympic medal.

P&P - Faves for bronze medal 🥉 despite their 4th place finish at GP Finals

Also, after watching the first day of Europeans, the team bronze medal is looking like our odds are getting better. Still behind Italy and Georgia. But, after Women’s SP, I started thinking, I think we have a chance.

It will be a battle just to make top five of course, and then a lot of things have to go in our favour, but, I just had a feeling we could nab the bronze medal here too.

I feel like the medal will truly depend on their skates, with a caveat for dance, since it’s so political.

If the skaters are clean I think they can nab that bronze, they don’t need to rely on others making mistakes per se.

Maddie/ Anastasiia and Lara all have the similar ceilings for clean skates.

Same goes for the pairs.

Canada and Italy have the edge in dance.

While Italy and Georgia have the edge in men.

However, I think if Canada does win the team bronze, they wont see one in ice dance. Same applies to Italy.

A team Bronze does come down to our skaters skating their best but also who the other countries choose to skate in the team event.

Well anything is possible but I think Canada will be thrilled just to get Piper and Paul win a medal forget Deanna and Max and her Oscar DeLaRenta dresses or the team event. To get a team medal you really need Italy to mess up in men and pairs. If Madi could place 3 or 4 th in the SP that would help a lot (remember she was 6th at worlds in the sp and that would include at least 2 Americans and 2 Japanese ladies ahead so that would save 2 spots. I would love Canada to win a medal but to beat Georgia and Italy giving up on the US and Japan is going to be hard. If they blow it they might not even skate the free skate which is probably more lkely than a bronze.

Robert Brodie has a Post-Nationals wrap-up:

He talks to Mike Slipchuk in it. Also he mentions that Minsol is looking to go on the JGP next season.

but no way she would get the release for JWC... well played Korea... well played.

at the same time, Skate Canada already announced Victoria, so it would be unfair to remove the opportunity from her.

Last night I had the strangest dream, the strangest dream ever. I dreamed or had a nightmare that Piper and Paul came fourth at the Olympics. They are following in vein of the hidden or the silent Canadian curse like Dubreil and Lauzon, Bourne and Kraatz and Weaver and Poje all very good teams, all teams that could have won Olympic medals and all of them could have won World Gold if they didn't. I fear Piper and Paul will follow the way of those who have fallen before them. I hope I am wrong. I am trying to be positive but the results of Europeans are not encouraging - it could get worse Fear and Gibson, the Italians/ ZK all go past Piper and Paul on top of Chock and Bates and the French.

Question. Who is the statistician/mathematician here? No that Europeans is finished are Piper and Paul in the second to last or p enultimate RD group for the Olympics or did the Lithuanians who placed lower than expected place l ow enough to allow Piper and Paul to be in the final group. Fingers crossed for P squared. Hopefully it was the Georgians who almost upset the RA team that is the difference

I believe Piper and Paul could never get passed unless Alison and Saulius won Euros, which was very unlikely.

I don't think the RD dance groups will matter as much this time. Even with their Euros win, Fournier-Beaudry/Cizerone will be in a lower group, and they will be used as the benchmark.
I don't think it will matter as much for FBC indeed :). but I still think it's a good thing for Piper and Paul to skate as late as possible... considering that their competition for bronze will be skating very very late.

If you look at the scores from Euros it is looking more and more possible that the Canadian Team can win bronze if they skate like they did at Nationals. Cause I can see us finishing 3rd or 4th in each portion of the short. Then it all depends on who ends of in the top 5 and who gets assigned to skate the free programs for each country.
