2026 European Championships Women's Free Skate

If my tired math is right, Estonia, Italy and Belgium has 3, Georgia, Finland and Poland 2 spots for next year

I think Estonia only has two? Nataly Langerbauer was 19th. Adding Niina's 1st to that gives a total of 20. I think they needed 13 or less for three spots?
I really thought first place cancels that, but I have no earthly idea why:slink:

Computer flags? Seriously?
I've never seen that before. It looks silly.

It's been used several times now, especially at the GP level.... There was even one incident in 2024 / 2023 season where Niina P was on the podium in a GP, and they put Japanese digital flag instead of Estonian during the medal ceremony 😬

Still prefer real flags for sure, but the one in Euros here is actually one of the better ones, other digital flags I've seen was just a flat still image with no impact whatsoever :cautious:

The winning skate has no triple triple! That’s terrible! Technical collapse!
Silver had two 3-2 combos and a 3-1-2 combo with the 1T disguised as a step out where she comes to a complete stop with both blades on the ice, with multiple blatant underrotations that weren't called as well.

It's not a shot at Loena, but the tech panel.

Well, at least a good skate by Niina to end this so that the winner would not have to be picked out among rather lackluster performances, let's say.

But in general, I found it to be quite a disappointing event to be honest. Granted, I didn't see all of it, only most of the last group and some of the 3rd group, but even then, when I rewinded the stream to catch-up with previous skates during the warm-up, etc, I found myself fast-forwarding because the skates were not interesting. Overall, technical elements were not particularly impressive, and even worse, very few skaters skated with any purpose or strength at all ... the vast majority was just there, trying to survive the elements, but with no life nor soul to them ☹️ I admit that for me, current Women skating as a whole keeps getting more bland and boring (admittedly catching Women competitions only randomly and each time more scarcely, as a result of ended-up rather disappointed each time I give it a try), which saddens me in a way.

And in this particular case, whoever was commenting on the ISU feed did not help, especially the woman who insisted on saying a comment on every single jump of every single skater, and so was blabbing for like 90% of every skate. The man was a bit better, at least he kept mostly quiet until the replays, but still both their comments were very incongruent, like for example, praising some skaters' jumps as "fantastical" when they would be leaving the ice by just a quarter of a millimeter, and then picking on others because of their "lack of height" when actually they were comparatively higher.

Oh well, to try and finish this rather long rant in a more uplifting way, let's try and find some positives here.... Niina did skate with character.... and Nina, even with a less than memorable skate, does have some nice movements and potential.... and Nastya did fight back and you could see how much more mature her skating looks compared to many others... and I liked the skater from Cyprus, Stefania (looked up her name because I remember her skating from the Olympic qualifier), not sure what place she ended-up on here but alas, she is alive on the ice! Kudos to her, she should have gotten a medal just for that 😁

Niina was fantastic and showed great nerve and strength of character. But my favourite performance was that of Josefin Taljegard. She brought tears to my eyes! I don’t ever remember seeing the 2nd skater out bring the crowd to a roaring standing O. Fully deserved!

I'm sorry those PCS scores for Josefin are criminal. If that skate isn't a 9 in performance I don't know what is, she got put down just because she's in the first flight. I'm staring at the rulebook right now and I'm like what more do you want for PCS? She is checking all of the boxes for high marks, WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT JUDGES SHE SKATED CLEAN. At least push her into the high sevens, she's in the sixes for two of the categories like do the judges not have eyes? are they blind? are they using the fake Olympic-season rulebook where you solely judge based on reputation and not what's on the ice?
I couldn't agree more! Josefin always does get hosed on PCs though--been watching her for years and she's become one of my favorites. Even when she's not too early in flight rank, she never gets what she deserves on any of the PCs. I can't believe that skate wasn't judged 'good enough' technically for her to earn the tech minimums for Worlds.

Late to the party but I just watched the NBC cover of the event and when Livia Kaiser was on screen and everytime she fell or made a mistake the commentators kept mentioning that she would lose her Olympic spot. Maybe I’m under the wrong impression but dosent Switzerland have 2 Olympic spots for women? Kimmy is most likely going and Livia is the only next logical choice right? Is it something about not having the technical minimum?
