2026 European Championships Pairs Short Program

Speech time.

Benoit Lavoie. And he is sounding really enthusiastic compared to some we have heard over the years!

Ah good, he is the only one. I was expecting a few speeches.

A whole pile of skaters on the ice, skating to "Greatest Day".

And the ones in fluorescent costumes with the flags are back too.

I think this might be the finale.

I was hoping for Torvill & Dean—and HRH Princess Anne, perhaps :) She is a great patron of British sports

Yep, that's all folks!

The Pairs SP stream has just ended.

See you in about 10 minutes over in the Ladies SP thread.

M/V:Well program looks polished, but Minerva fails 3S again. Not promising thing before Olympics.

M/B:Still looking sharp, but starting to show weakness by doing mistakes when it matters.Lets see how they show up tmr from 1st place.

P/V:Someone said in GPF that this pair would really need to do miracles to get more points, because they are already perfectly synched and the program is superb.

Minerva and Nikita looked to me very nervous and, consequently, it made to look them tight and skating like separate skaters. Its a tiny nuance maybe but it percievable.

In general, this undeniable magical pair (in progress), imho, do not have a real Olympic programs this year; I am sorry, it is just my humble opinion. Tango is not for the pair skating. There is a discipline of ID for it. This SP of course is a good and sophisticated program! no doubt about it but, imo, not so for the the Olympic program.
Neither I like their LP this year. I think that Benoit didn't hit the nail. Yes, program is very well choreographed but, again, not for the Olympic year ( And I do love Benoit choreographies! look how gorgeous program he created for Stephen Gogolev!)

I better will not watch pair skating😭.... I do not want Miniki not to win 😭 They last year earned World gold medal was taken away from them and now.... now they have to climb the high mountain.

Also, I think that they chemistry needs time to become more perceivable for the audience, despite the fact it is there. All this ahead of them. It takes time.
I will stop my whining here. Sorry :-( everyone.

I have not yet watched all pairs yet; so from how much I had an opportunity to watch, P/S are exquisite! They truly made incredible progress and are great!👏

😡 What rigged judging! No way should M/B have beaten P/S in this SP with their error on the throw, the messy spins, and the shaky lift. They’re leading when they should be no higher than 3rd. H/V are my favorite team, but they shouldn’t have beaten P/S either. Even though the points spread is close, I don’t understand why the judges always lowball Maria and Sasha! Yes, they may not have the speed of H/V or M/B, but they were the only team in the top 3 that were clean. I miss the days in figure skating when that used to count for something.

My ranking:
1. P/S
2. H/V
3. M/B

Check the base value of their program.
Btw they got the highest GOE in this competition. I would not call it "lowballing".
Unfortunately though, judges did not deduct enough in GOE for the mistakes made by the top 2 teams. M/B received +0.08 on a throw for which she had a very noticeable step out on the landing. Some judges awarded this element +2 and +1; how in the hell does this happen for any living person with good eyesight? There was even an insane judge who gave M/B +4 for their SBS spin, which was very noticeably out of synch and lost centering. And someone please tell me how this team gets awarded numerous +3s on lifts when he visibly looks like he is going to drop her at any moment. This same thing happens in ice dance where Chock and Bates receive +4s for their twizzles when they should be receiving anywhere from -1 to +2.

A "step out" is when the free leg touches the ice.
M's free leg did not touch the ice.

Btw the commentator overdid the drama by shouting "ohohoh she's fighting for the landing" even though M had a fine landing edge, her axis was OK, no wobbling at all, and she remained in control to do the turns for her "difficult exit" feature. M's free leg was late though so she lost some speed/ice coverage and didn't have a nice line neither on her landing nor on her turns. So eventually they only received +0.08 GOE for this.

There is indeed a place for a bullet points discussion hence their GOE ranged from -2 to +2. (If I was a judge, I would go with +1: a huge throw landed with no big sins but ugly 😁)

Anyway, take it to the Replay Lounge if you want because I'm off now.
