2026 Olympics Practices

Just posted - Madi & Evan have a close call with defective boards on practice. A screw came loose on them and the fell down. No one was hurt.
Tried to post link, but it did not post to correct link.
I would hope that Olympic venues would be better quality than this. Glad that no one was hurt, and I sincerely hope there are no more incidents involving the venue, equipment, the ice, etc.

Peacock is disappointing me, as usual. What's the deal with the practice videos? I thought I saw tiles for "training" when the Olympic tiles first went up, but I've never been able to find them since. Just looked again and no luck.

The Olympics Figure Skating channel is posting clips from practice on YouTube. But the music is replaced with random stuff, so best to watch muted. At least, this is the case in the US.

This Peacock training feed is absolutely ridiculous! It is staying on Ilia Malinin the entire practice session, even though both Maxim Naumov and Andrew Torgashev are also in this practice group. It’s Maxim’s turn and his music is playing, but the camera is fixed on Ilia the entire time, even after he has already had his turn. 😡

Amber continues to practice like a gold medalist. She has really looked phenomenal all week long in practices here. All of the elements look easy for her and I really hope she can bring the same level of attack, speed and freedom into her competitive performances. :)

This is a throwback to 2022. The camera showed Nathan at the boards while others were skating. The same with Yuzu. I have no problem with them having been the stars of the games, but that was ridiculous.

Sad to see it continuing. :(

I see women are on the practice feed now. I think they're doing their usual though. Lara Naka Gutmann's Jaws program is playing, and all they're doing is focusing on Kaori. Kaori skating now. It's on the practice rink.

Wow, the practice cam is really bad on the main rink-- it's following Chock and Bates to ridiculous degree. When they ducked behind a camera covered in black fabric, the practice cam was focused on the other camera, resulting in a mostly black screen with no other skaters being shown, despite other top teams being in the same rink. I enjoy Chock and Bates, but this is the time to show other skaters!

It seems to be a very us-focused practice camp. The other day. It was just following Amber around the whole time despite there being other high-level athletes on as well

I'm occasionally peeking in on the practices, here are some notes based on what I saw:
Kao's right boot is heavily taped, looks to be more of a structural issue than just keeping the laces in. He's struggling a bit with the 4Lo, taking a few falls on it, and has popped the 4T a few times as well. He did land a nice one near the end of practice.

Ilia was hit & miss, he landed a lot of gorgeous quads but also had some tight jumps and quite a few stepouts as well.

They did that one day with Shun. Matteo was in the center doing his long program but the camera was simply following Shun stroking around the perimeter. I burst out laughing because the camera wasn't on Matteo who was actually doing a program. It was a waste of time.

I don’t know if this has been discussed elsewhere, but practice coverage is terrible! They follow the top skater in the group no matter what they are doing while other athletes are doing run throughs. Now they are just showing them backstage while there is music playing for other skaters.

It is very upsetting.

Amber is having a rough practice today. Wonder if what happened with Ilia has her thinking too much.

She looked better in her earlier practice today. It’s okay for skaters to fall in practice. She still landed a lot of really good triples. Besides, skaters need to have falls in practice, so they know how to regroup should it happen in competition. What I see with Amber is that even when she does have a random fall on the 3Axel, she nails the rest of the jumps cleanly. She got off many clean 3Axels in the 1st and 2nd practice today.

What I think is even more telling is that the Japanese women are falling more on considerably easier triples (Kaori on the 3loop and 3toe, Ami on the 3loop and she was having major struggles with the Axel, and Mone on the 3Salchow).
