((good for her. definitely the personal best, right? a huge score for a program without 3-3. if mao were clean with 3-3, she would have gotten an enormous score.

Yep, I think Miki had a downgrade too. Now I am waiting to see Where Akiko Suzuki will place.
I am waiting, too... For now Akiko is my favourite Japanese skater...
i am sorry that fumie and akiko didnt score high. i thought that those two may challenge the top three. but i feel that it is going to be very difficult with 7-8 points differences with miki. it was good that yukari did well at this time. she may be a person who can do well when it counts.

It seems she wasn't solid on her jumps today. She is still pretty even wtih Takeda and Suguri.
She was under Fumie who had two deductions... And her TES was lower than Fumie too... So I guess she may had one jump downgraded...
it seems that akiko has been having trouble with her lutz and flip lately, which has cost her a lot. although akiko's jumps are far more impressive and has greater height, flow, and speed than yukari's when she lands them, it is unfortunate that she has been rather inconsistent.

I think the Japanese Fed. wants to make sure that Yukari is one the 3 skaters going to worlds because she is just so consistant. I think they might be worried if Miki and Akiko are going because Miki could withdraw after SP and Akiko doesn't have the experience at worlds yet. As much as I like Akiko and Miki, I would rather gamble on Nakano who always brings it when it really matters. This worlds is very important because, you know, it is determined at this worlds how many girls you can send to the Olympics. If I were a japanese fed. person I would want Yukari to go to worlds for sure. You really can't count on Miki or Akiko..
But isnt it akiko herself who messed up today?
That said, I totally agree Yukari is a safe bet. It is really interesting. Except for 2A, Sal, and Toe, her jumps are neither reliable nor good in quality. Her basic skating skills are also questionable. Yet, coupled with her superb spins and newly acquired presentation skills, she comes across as consistent and strong. I would personally prefer Miki's and Akiko's "wow" factors in their jumps and overall speed. But Yukari is strong in comp settings and works well with the CoP system. That is by itself very admirable.
Yet, as shown in GPF, I feel that she has to be nearly clean to be competitive, which is the same as her rival Fumie, whereas Caro and Miki afford making mistakes.
presentation wise, i liked nana and sawada a lot. Sawada looked out of shape, but the performance was e-x-c-e-l-l-e-n-t so that i just forgot it. great speed and very strong elements overall. but i feel that she might have URed some of the jumps.
nana was fantastic. wonderful costume. great presentation. all the elements and the overall speed were just wonderful.
despite the strange mistake, Mao was far better than usual in her speed. This was the first time I heartily enjoyed this program. it used to come across as a flat program, but at this time, i could feel the ups and downs and changes in speed. it was nice. i think that mao is good at giving a strength to the music. her edge in the lutz looked a lot better at this time.
BTW, I dont know if this is just me, but every time i see mao wearing strong eyelines, light eyeshadow, and a red lipstick, she somehow remind me of Dora-Emon (or perhaps his little sis, Dorami-chan, who has big lovely eyes). She is really an adorable darling. No wonder she is tremendously popular among kids. whenever mao skates this season, my mom never fails to complain about her makeup (which i did a number of times here, as you may know, sorry about that). But now i am accepting it as makeup for a ballet performance because mao used to dance ballet for a long time.
mai was absolutely beautiful. i really love this brown dress. so classy, elegant, and mature. i also liked her makeup. just standing on the ice, she already has something. i liked her performance. it was just as elegant as herself. a little slow overall. but it was a beautiful, enjoyable program performed by a beautiful young lady.
akiko had a wonderful speed. i think that it was a fab performance despite mistakes.
i also felt that yukari had a a lot better speed than usual. her elements looked just as usual.
miki was fab. very mature and elegant. i don't know why she wasnt the first. her combo looked fully rotated to me.
fumie was good. her back spin got 100% better than before although her positions are still underwhelming. her slss was a lot better than before, too. her lutz had the usual wobbly edge, but landed very cleanly. the fall on flip was unfortunate. i don't know about music deduction. her finish looked exactly on the timing to me. her skating was not particularly fast, but was good overall.
