2025-2026 Canadian Figure Skating

I haven't watched either, it looks like low levels in the RD (midline step base) and then a twizzle issue in the FD from the protocols.
Summer lost the twizzle and that is, rightly, reflected in the score. The judges gave her a L1 in real time and then a base on review.

One of the commentators (I suspect Ted, but I can't remember) mentioned that Summer and her family had been dealing with some sort of trauma, but I didn't catch what.

summer and nick had a few mistakes in both programs.. twizzles but also the midline steps in the RD which got a S... I think that's a "separation" call which then lowers the score quite a lot.

let's not make excuses. everyone has a story. I'm surprised that no one has considered the fact that Summer & Nick's scores at Nationals were ridiculously inflated. Like Skate Canada needed to justify their trip to world's. why? cuz they're pretty?

Anderson/Dawson are a much better team and they proved themselves internationally. Too bad they couldn't catch a break domestically. It was like Skate Canada decided the outcome of the season way back before the JGP even started.

Because I like making tables and Juniors are done for the season, here's who will be eligible for what next season:

2026-27 EligibilityMenWomen
Aging Out of Junior EligibilityParker Heiderich
David Bondar
David Li
David Howes
Anthony Paradis
Edward Nicholas Vasii
Justine Miclette
Uliana Shiryaeva
First Season of Senior International EligibilityWilliam Chan
Ethan Luo
Minsol Kwon
Megan Woodley
Reese Rose
Hetty Shi
Aleksa Volkova
Last Season of Junior EligibilityGrayson Long
First Season of Junior EligibilityLia Cho

I mostly covered the NextGen team members. I threw in Justine and Uliana since they're the only ones who are aging out for women, plus I keep forgetting that Justine was still Junior eligible. I'm not covering Ice Dance or Pairs since there were already 7 splits in Junior Ice Dance since Nationals.

Summer and Nic’s seasons best internationally was 143.56 on the JGP circuit, 17 points higher than at worlds which is what I was comparing to, not nationals. If they made mistakes this week, that happens but overall, not the end of the world for the team. Just a disappointment.

Unfortunately Charlie and Cayden had a fall at Nationals. I personally would have sent them anyway. I also think they earned it with their performance on the JGP circuit. Do either team have another year of junior eligibility?

Charlie and Cayden have one more season, they both recently turned 20. Nicholas turns 21 in January 2028, so 2027-28 will be his last season of eligibility while Summer has until 2028-29 for eligibility.

wow at Justine LOL :) she's been senior for so long that we forget she was still a junior..

all our boys are aging out but Grayson. I guess he will have a chance to go to Junior worlds next year.

so only Alexander and Layla will have to move up ?

Kalaganis/Deveau will have to move up too if they stay together. Emile ages out while Olympia will be eligible for the 2028-29 season.
btw.. I saw a post on social media.. Emile won some scholarship.. Bravo ! :). no idea what it was but since he's been mentioned :)

21 medals...our lowest total since 2002.. wow. This wasn't good.
You know they tried their best but still.. and I don t mean to make things worse don't forget no Russians so the expectations they should have had even more medals. In respect to skating this sounds mean because she has tried her best but Schizas has had so many chances. Maybe she is the best of the worst but this is getting ridiculous. I would love to see Daleman make a comeback. But I think maybe Canada needs to change its performance director whatever his title is. Nothing against Michael Slipchuk but he has not been able to turn the ship around after two olympics. I have heard his salary is very high - over %160,00 maybe around or over $200,000. And that some of the criticiss is that he may travel too much with the skaters.. Maybe he should stay home and use the money to send skaters to competitions. Regardless Canada is at a cross roads. As to the future Hopefully Lala and Gogo and Minso (name?) can do something. Trennt and Lia are nice "vanilla pudding" but they need some new talent in pairs. The just won junior and were second in pairs too so who knows about the future.

it's been covered exhaustively in media. funding wasn't indexed to inflation so all the sports federations are struggling with budgets and that explains why there are less medals. that's all.

If anything, figure skating did better this time around with great performances from Piper and Paul, Stephen and Lia and Trennt.

With so many Jr men aging out one has to wonder how many will be staying around and for how long. I mean with so few events that our skaters get sent out to, will some of them be the next Conrad and just give up.

That is my biggest concern.
As a junior athlete, you have a chance to be sent to JGP (3/4 athletes). If you don’t, as long as you score 180 you get an international event.

However, as a senior athlete, there are only 3 athletes that get sent to senior GP events and the domestic benchmark goes up to 219 just to get one international event. Corey moved to Italy as that was too difficult. Representing Italy now, he gets sent to 4/5 international events without worrying about the 219 score.

I think 219 will be too difficult for athletes like David Li, David Howes, even Parker (our Junior National Champion). Even Anthony will struggle unless he learns the 3A and masters the other triples with consistency. Will they be stuck skating domestically now forever? 🥺

and now, you made me so sad... my sonnnnnnn :(.
Hopefully Gogolev will bring up two spots .

so.. if it's indeed visa related, why doesn't Skate Canada send Victoria to Coupe du Printemps instead ? She's earned a second half of the season assignment. Just saying

And while we are wishing on stars, why not have more accessible isu competitions in North America? Have a pairs and ice dance in Montreal and a singles in Ontario. And possible in BC. Have it not in the summer but sometime in the autumn. Lots of choices for timing. We have lots of international teams training in Canada and USA that could attend. What is s stupid is that to get international points , our skaters must go to Europe.
