Jason Brown

That's wonderful to hear. That's the way Jason usually skates, but he forgot to skate like that at Nats. He went into tunnel vision. As Alysa demonstrated, and Ilia now realizes, tunnel vision is not the way to skate. Jason is great because he skates because he loves it. I want to see him skate like that at World's! Thank you so much for posting this!

Thank you for coming to report @TallyT and I also read in the Notte Stellata thread that @Magill kindly reported that Jason's Say Something was one of their favorites (after the star of the show, of course ;))

I am glad that Jason has been invited these past few years, it is an honor, and it seems to bring out his best self.

The skaters at that show are Yuzu's friends. Jason is still his friend. But it looks like he's sticking to his choreo and music guns. And if that makes him happy, that's what he should do. I know that he can make a successful program out of Say Something. It just hard to do, but I believe that he can do it. At this point in his career, he should do what he wants to do, period. But of course, I would love to see him at least top 10 at World's. And he can probably do better than that. I'd love to see him go into the SOI tour with a great performance preceding it.

Not properly, just embedded. ;)

IIRC, Jason wore his Riverdance costume last year in Notte Stellata. the green worked well in the group numbers. Or so I heard. :)

It fits him better than when he was a kid. I knew he wore the shirt. I didn't remember him wearing the pants. That doesn't mean that he didn't wear them. He looks like he's having a great time! They all do! It's a nice group. And Jason loves being in Japan and skating for the fans!

Being in Notte Stellata is a special recognition of their friendship and because of the unique nature of the show it gets a lot of press coverage in Japan. Jason performed both Say Something and Spiegl; if and when he does retire from competition, it's likely he will still be invited each year (and to other shows, of course!)

I just saw a post from David Wilson from Sendai showing the skaters heading out into the arena. Jason is wearing his original Riverdance Costume! It looks great on him! I wish I could see that show!
If you're really serious about it, you need a VPN working with Hulu Japan (free OVPN Spider, and paid Nord, Suika, Express Nord are among those that were reported to be working), a PayPal account and approximately 7 USD to pay for a monthly subscription of Hulu Japan.

Tomorrow's show is the last one but after that all 3 shows will be available for delayed viewing on Hulu Japan. I don't remember how long for but anyway... You can check if your VPN is working trying to watch this test video with it hulu.jp/watch/100253460 which is accessible without a subscription.
Otherwise, all Notte Stellata shows are available on DVD/Blue Ray from Japan but, alas, usually only next year as they are broadcast on Japanese TV time and time again until the next show is up.

Jason has always wanted to spend more time in Japan and possibly live there for a time. Learning the Japanese language was such a smart and important decision that he made. He just wanted to communicate with his fans. Being able to do shows in Japan, having friends in Japan, and being able to speak the language is very special to him. I'm glad that at least once a year, Jason and Yuzu get to spend some time together. He's always been friends with Satoko also. I'm glad that he's able to do this.

In fact, I don't think that the other North-American and European skaters and choreographers invited each year in this show (Shae-Lynn Bourne, David Wilson, Violetta Afanasieva, Javier Fernández) speak Japanese, I believe that he's invited because he skates wonderfully and has a link with Sendai and/or Yuzuru Hanyu. But of course, speaking Japanese he's much more "at (cold) home" in Sendai and can communicate with both groups of skaters, like Rika Hongo (I'll diplomatically pass over Yuzuru Hanyu's English "proficiency").
I think that the colours of the costumes for the Finale are suggested by the Production among each skater's own costumes, to have multicolour group number and Finale? It's every year the same I think; at least, for Jason Brown and Yuzuru Hanyu it has been the same since the first edition in 2023.

Jason isn't invited because he speaks Japanese, but because he and Yuzu are friends. Jason seems to really enjoy being there. But it's very useful that he does speak the language, even though he insists that he's not fluent. But he's pretty good at this point. It was intriguing seeing him in that old Riverdance costume. So I commented on it.

I'm sure it did! He's a seasoned skater but feeling appreciation and love is always motivating!
What I hope is that he could secure a skating place in Europe until Worlds, not to get two jetlags in a row...
Absolutely. He looked really happy to be there and to be skating those programs. What fun! It would be nice, but it's 2 weeks, so he will probably head back to Canada. He and Tracy will want to finalize what he's doing at World's.

For those who are willing to brave a site that shall not be named, videos for both Say Something and Spiegel have been posted. As I suspected, I LOVE Say Something as a show program. Yes, there were way fewer jumps, but he allowed the feeling and the emotion to add to the performance instead of overthinking it. Should he choose to skate this at Worlds, if he can translate what he did at Notte Stellata to the competitive version of the program, it will be beautiful. He also has a new costume for it that's just gorgeous. Spiegel was lovely, of course. I can only hope to have such beautiful lines someday.

As an aside, I'm finally studying the Horton method of dance. I've wanted to do it ever since Sinnerman, and boy let me tell you, I have so much more appreciation for how difficult skating that must be! It's a HARD technique.

I agree that Say Something makes a great exhibition. It's not an easy freeskate to rack up points with. But if he can actually do it, it could be truly beautiful and score well. Basically, the music gives him no help. It has to be 10% Jason at his best. I'm sure that he can do it, but there's no room for error. Spiegel was similar, but less emotional, so it puts a lesser burden on him as a skater. I do love the new costume. SO much better. I am looking forward to seeing him skate his skates at World's. So I do hope that he does go. I will certainly be watching. He looked like he was putting his all into those Notte Stellata skates. And enjoying every minute. That's when Jason skates his best. Seeing Jason and Yuzu skate was a reminder that there is some incredible skating out there, whether they are competing or not. Jason's jumps in Spiegel looked great! And the one jump that he did in Say Something looked great also. I think it was the 3F, but don't quote me!

It is, but I truly love Horton technique! Have fun!
