OK, as. the OP....
this is all very interesting folks, but I would love your opinions on my original question:
how much can Alysa's medal and performance increase interest in figure skating in the US? Whether or not deserved, whether or not comparable to others, not relevant to the query:
Can she actually increase interest in the US overall?
I believe that like the generations before her, Alysa has inspired a whole new generation of little kids, that were watching her at the Olympics, to ask for skating lessons! Of course, it will take at minimum ten years to see her true impact.
Figure Skating viewership, we will see in the next year or so if it (hopefully) goes up.
In the short term, it seems that SOI shows are selling out or close to capacity for many shows. I was hoping to catch the show in Orlando when I visit my mom but sadly the Meet & Greet is sold out, as well as the best seats. I'm still going even if I have to watch from higher up! But, like viewership, we will have to wait and see until the upcoming seasons if interest can be maintained.
It's simply going to take some time to see the full impact that Alysa may have had on the sport. For now, I'm loving that so many opportunities are coming her way. Star figure skaters, unlike ball players in other sports, have such a small window of time for substantial earnings off of their success.
She's up to
It's remarkable how eager everyone is to cite the words of that same Yagudin, who just recently everyone was ready to bury alive because he said something bad about LGBT. You guys are all lucky you don't understand Russian and don't hear him commentate on competitions. This man can't open his mouth without saying something stupid; his tongue runs far ahead of his thoughts. Only his longtime rival Plushenko can compete with him in this regard, and even then, not every day, only when he feels like talking.
But I already know that this quote from Yagudin will be repeated, repeated, and repeated. Somehow, it must be explained why mediocre skaters have now become champions. But no matter how many times this quote is repeated, Alisa Liu will still remain far worse than even Sasha Trusova, who truly disdained choreography. Even if Alisa begins to radiate joy more than a supernova radiate gamma rays, this will not change.
It's Alysa, not Alisa. You haters are gonna hate. Whatevs.

She's forever the 2026 Olympic gold medal champion in the Women's event. DEAL.
I love that in spite of the haters like above, Alysa is now very much a mainstream star with what appears to be a ton of endorsements. I still believe that she has brought a side of new fans to the sport. And I believe that more than a few are here to stay.
For those keeping count of Alysa's Instagram followers, she's currently at 8M.
