Kami's 4T in China:
Kami restored 3A:
I think she's going to struggle next season looking at this we're 3.5 months from test skates.
There is too much movement for the sake of it, nothing really connects, jumps are really labored, the glide is so slow and unsteady as well. Skating skills should be in the 6's in my opinion. At this point the coaches are probably too scared to say anything other than 'you look great out there Kamila', and she's the cash cow for Navka's shows. Feels like this kind of skating is the result of someone like Eteri not in her ear for the past 2.5 years giving her honest appraisal, instead everyone just says yes to her. She might have hated being yelled out by Eteri, but this is the result when she doesn't have someone giving honest criticism. If this were a free skate how could PCS be higher than 60, even though I know it's going to be in the low 70's next season. Thoughts?
If I had never seen the 2021/22 version of Valieva or even the 2020/21 (she was only beaten by peak Shcherbakova) 2022/23 versions of Valieva in my life maybe I would say wow this skater has so much range if she puts it all together no-one will beat her, but she is not a skater growing and improving, it is a skater clearly in regression. To me she is completely unrecognisable from what she was under Eteri I foolishly thought Valieva was the genius responsible for her success where she obliterated world records (on merit in my opinion she really was/is the best we've seen), but there was no Kamila without Eteri tweaking her ear.Hm. I'm not too worried about choreography considering exhibitions are often mediocre and her current repertoire is probably quite large. She worked with Benoit for a program so choreographical hopes aren't gone. Her legs are still good and she had some smooth movements. Her arms aren't like Adeliia's but they probably never were anyways. Her split spin didn't look peak it seemed her leg was bending a bit that's cause for concern. I can't say this makes me feel too tragically. Still plenty of hope since competitive programs are always on a different level. Definitely reason to doubt though. This season will be an interesting one to discern between Kamila's vs Eteri's genius.
I think the test skates version of Valieva in 3.5 months will not be too different, but that's okay. I still admire her for what she achieved it was the ultimate, and there are skaters like Dzepka coming through. Even Adelia in a high intensity non-ultra c program is someone to watch imo. No-one can bring the energy she did to her SP at the Olympics. This Bolero video is over two months old.
