2026 NextGen - Skate Canada | July 16-19

I give Ukraine a pass. They never had the depth to field those 12 slots... I don't know much about China, especially at Junior levels.. .We see teams appearing with huge tricks than disappear being rematched or whatever... But Canada right now has 8 teams on their next gen competition start orders. I think those 8 teams could get a sport. 4 teams could get 2 spots and the younger/less developed teams could get 1 spot each. That would be great for the future of these young athletes.

In the end, I'll be somewhat happy if a minimum of 8 spots are used out of the 12... I am not even certain that will happen.
China set a minimum score of 120 total points for their teams to get a granx prix. This was at recent domestic competition. 3 of 5 teams didn't get it (although one team was just 1.5 short). Top pairs didn't have to compete based on their previous international achievements. There will be another event to fight for spots at later grand prix with the same min to achivie. Right now they have 4 teams who assured jgp spots. It may change after second qualifying event but I don't think they will use all the quota.

Or competition who will forfeit more: Canada or China? Ukraine is a default winner but the fight for second place will be fierced.
China has three teams that are guaranteed 2 spots, and another one that is likely to get two assignments as well. There's another team that is very close to the minimum score the Chinese federation has set, so the best case scenario is probably China sending 5 pairs teams to two events each and only giving up two spots.

Yay! I get to watch a lot of this!

Oh no I see Camila Volkova is listed as WD for Junior Women
this sucks.. at the same time, considering the lack of spots we have for JGP, even for her, considering she's one of the best, the chances to get out were minimal. Lia and Victoria are probably going to grab those spots.

Camilla is still young. If she is ill or injured, it is best that she withdraws. As you say, it is unlikely that she would get a JGP spot. I also think it is better to take a long-term view and to prioritise the longevity of a career, rather than rushing and just having a short period of success before spending the rest of your life with chronic injuries.

Well... Rose Théroux was young too. And so was Joseph Phan. I just hope she recovers well and that it's preventive.

Trust me, not the thing we would like to win in. I'm not even sure if we have even one junior pair left now.

On the side note, I'll be able to watch most of the junior ladies :jumping: without wrecking my already-ruined sleep schedule.
I hope the stream will be archived for the rest as well

The stream should be archived, I'll be posting the links to them here:

no score box
no 3-3 combo
no lutz

not a good start to this competition.

I am not sure about this Flamenco situation for Uxia. Probably a very new program. ?

so on top of Camila, we are assuming that Quinn Startek had to w/d ... but who else ? It's clear with the starting orders that they were aiming for 18 skaters.

I guess there is no need for a score box when you get instant scoring
