2026 NextGen - Skate Canada | July 16-19

My fave Canadian boy, Art, was horrific today 😢

For our boys, I would clearly send out Grayson to two JGP events and then the 2nd to 5th finishers at this event to one JGP spot each.

For our girls, Lia should take two spots, with Victoria and Reese taking one JGP spot each.

Totally missed Ethan Luo
Both William, Rui and Colton scored lower today than in Lake Placid

Bowen YAN is a young guy up from Novice trying his luck as a junior.
Some nice styling to Buble, jumps a bit slow and short today.
Not quite as good as his earlier outing in HPC in June.

Tobias Liu looks very young but is a wonderful spinner skating to emo-boy music. Very neat and clean. Very stylish.
Roman S sitting in K & C with him - now I get where the emo music comes from.

Do you mean Masquerade Waltz ? Because that's the one I thought we would have and it's Khatchaturian... Which Shosto are you thinking about ?

I was expecting a lot more classical music or semi-classical music....
Sorry, I fell asleep. I meant Waltz no. 2. The one I heard maaany time at weddings for the first dance.

As I said to the kind soul who replied while you were sleeping, oh yeah... this one... I had blocked it from my memory LOL.. but at this point, considering what we heard and saw yesterday. I'd welcome it.

Please visit @labgoat 's thread about OD/RD waltzes of the past... Life will be better.

I've been catching up from last night.

Pairs
Some exciting new pairs who I think are very promising.
I really like Kaydee Kallay and Etienne Lacasse together. She is raw still, and I hope he will be patient with her. Pairs girls often look elegant but also a bit delicate (which I know they are not). She looks powerful and it helps showcase the maturity of Etienne's skating.
I really wanted the Nova Scotia pair to do well, but I think they got a bit overwhelmed by the occasion and the stop in the middle didn't help. I thought they would get a deduction for breaking their programme, but they didn't.

Ladies
Lia, Viktoria and Reese have separated themselves from the rest of the pack. Provided they don't have meltdowns in the free, they should be sent out to the JGP. I personally would give them one spot each initially with the fourth spot going to whoever does best there (which will probably be Lia, but I think they should all be given the chance).
I am wondering why Sandrine wasn't there?

Men
Grayson's experience showed.
Below him, I think you are in a bit of a rebuilding phase. The other experienced skaters have aged out of juniors, and the lack of experience among others showed (which is understandable). Where was Parker? Has he aged out of Juniors, or has Skate Canada lost interest in him?

I think they're a team that does better in the free than the short. At Trophy they came 9th in the short and then 6th in the free, with the 3rd highest TES for the free.

Parker aged out (y)

I have doubts about them together but I think Étienne has improved as a partner so let's hope he can guide her and help her adapt.

Weird how that happened and went. Flashback of the Olympics in 2006 when a pairs we won't named stopped forever and never received a deduction and won silver ;)

I think they will want to prepare Lia for Worlds and give her two spots.

two girls were missing on top of Camila. I think it's Quinn Startek and Sandrine. She's still only 16 and though she is hot and cold, she should have been there.

Yes, everyone has aged out. It's not really a problem in my opinion considering the few opportunities. I noticed that many did try the 3a... Few landed it but that's a big positive for me. It's nice to have "better juniors" but if they don't have a 3a, the transition is tough in seniors (for instance, Anthony)
