How much interest can Alysa Liu revive in figure skating in the US?

I'm kind of baffled why a lot of posters are being fairly negative toward Alyssa and her future. What's up with that?
I don't think anyone is being negative toward Alysa. We all can see she did well for herself. But the question was "How much interest can Alysa Liu revive in figure skating?" and the answer to that question could be "probably a lot" for some and "probably not so much on her own" for others. We won't know which one is closer to the truth until at least next season.

There are a lot of negative and even nasty comments against Alysa. Not here but elsewhere, trust me.

I don't see the "notion" being pushed that the way to measure the value of athletes' contributions to their sports is by how many Instagram followers they have. Has Alysa's IG been discussed? Of course. But for someone to think IG activity equates to contribution to the sport, well, that's absurd. Further, the Gucci bag remark was unnecessary. But if anyone wants to see a Gucci bag on a skater, you'll have to go see Yuzu about that. He's a Gucci ambassador and Alysa is a Vuitton ambassador.

This is 2026. And I'm interested in the sport's future, not its past. How we consume sports and the activities of athletes, in general, has dramatically changed. I don't need a butt-in-seat count. I don't want to go to events. Certain types of people go to sporting events but in no way is suggestive of a sport's popularity. I watch the sport up close on two screens at the same time - desktop computer and big screen TV.

God help the people who look at "butts in seats" at the U.S. Open (Tennis) to determine the popularity of the sport or even the Kentucky Derby. Both have the same problem - many people care more about going there for social reasons, rather than caring about what is actually going on in the sport. "What hat are you wearing, Ethel?" And, "Who designed it?" Then they go get trashed on Mint Juleps.

Every sport in America cares about butts in the seats.

They did then, they do now, they will in the future. The fact that the Eagles have a thirty year wait time for season tickets is used by all those young folks getting news from TikTok and oh so cool influencers as a symbol of their popularity, as well as all the old folks. So when Jacob and Ethan and Aidan are done with Twitch and whatever the latest gaming app is, on the phone, laptop and tablets they all have open simultaneously, they talk about butts in the seats and how they can score tickets .

God doesn't need to help me, I know it is so. :). And I surely hope Alysa increases them for skating, as she has in the past, as well.

Ticket sales revenue taken in and corporate ad dollars spent in the USA for NFL football is easily the worst choice one could make for a comparison with a sport like figure skating.

Ridiculous.

OH, NO !!!! I mixed up my Gucci bag with my Louis Vuitton. I just don't deserve to call myself a figure skating fan. :(

That's not really the issue. This is business. They pay ambassadors. Gucci didn't link up with Alysa and LV didn't link up with Yuzu. That there are two skaters who are ambassadors for design houses is a positive not a negative. It's commonplace with athletes from a great number of sports. Carlos Alcaraz is an ambassador for LV and Yannik Sinner is an ambassador for Gucci. The benefits flow both ways.

Less obsessing over high-priced bags and more emphasis on skating, please.

Yuzuru Hanyu is popular with fans and an asset to the sport because of his skating. So let it be with Alysa Liu.

.On the other hand, "butts in seats" is highly relevant. If a lot of new fans come out for Stars on Ice, that benefits all elite skaters and could also could stimulate grassroots participation.

Alysa has a history with social media when she became famous at 13, including threats, comments about her growing body and general creepy stuff. She has set boundaries to protect her mental health. This is one of the reasons why she did so well at the Olympics.
These boundaries refer to the content she was reading.

I talked about the content she was posting.
By the way, she kept posting regularly during the Olympics.
