2026 Lake Placid Ice Dance International​

The 2026 Lake Placid Ice Dance International will take place July 27-29, 2026, in Lake Placid, NY, at the Olympic Center.

The event will feature the ice dance discipline in the junior and senior categories and will be an ISU Minimum Technical Scoring event. The competition will be conducted in accordance with the ISU Constitution and General Regulations, the ISU Special Regulations, and relevant ISU Communications.

My first impression is that there are a lot of teams getting their first international experience here, especially Canadian teams. It's nice to see Canada sending out some less experienced teams, both Junior and Senior.

In Senior, it's the first international competitions for Amanda Urban & Peter Beaumont (CAN), Lucy Hancock & Aiden Dotzert (CAN) (both new teams last season), and Sabrina Ghaly & Tyler Vollmer (PHI) (brand new this season) It's also Alisa Korneva & Kieran MacDonald (CAN)'s first Senior International and their first International comp since Jr. Worlds 2024

In Junior, it's the first international for the Canadian teams of Anna Theroux & Rafael Gossard, Chaima Ben Khelifa & Julien Levesque, Jessy Gagnon & Anthony MacDonald, and Kayla Bowman & Logan Bowman. I thought it would be the first international comp for Florence Beausoleil & Remi Thibault, but they got sent out to a Novice A comp last season.

For the USA, it's the international debut of Aneta Vaclavikova & William Lissauer, and Molli Taylorson & Steven Moore.

It's also the debut of Anna Waugh & Matthew Jacoby for Ireland and the new team of Liliia Litenko & Aleksandr Ryzhenkov for ISR.

The junior international RD started today at 7pm EST. The senior international RD will start tomorrow around 2:30pm EST.

I have been checking live results. One of my fave young teams, Calhoun/ Zheltyshev drew an early start, unfortunately. They were one of the top junior teams on the JGP last season, and a top team on the domestic side as well. Sadly, they were unable to go to Junior Worlds earlier this year due to a visa issue for Mark. I am bummed that it looks like they made an error in the LPIDI junior RD. They have typically scored between 56+ to 57+ internationally, and as high as 58+ domestically. So their current low score of 50.98 in the RD stings. Must be, in part, due to the earlier starting order and probably mistake(s) on an element. It sucks that fans cannot watch in real time. Hopefully, fan vids with original music will be posted.

Sigh, hoping C/Z can pull up in the FD. They had a great season last year.

Jane received a twizzel level 3, otherwise there were no minuses or glaring mistakes for Jane and Mark. They received all No’s for both of their patterns though, which is what brought their scores down. In fact only one team received 3 Yes’s for one of the pattern steps, Aneta and William. Some teams received 2 Yes’s for each pattern steps but not many. Like I’ve mentioned before, the waltz is going to be a hard RD year. Naturally, I expect teams to improve throughout the season and the scores in the RD to increase.

C/Z are 5th behind Stapert/ Korotcov in 4th, and the very new team from Canada in 3rd, Chaima Ben Khelifa/ Julien Levesque, who just partnered this month. Levesque previously competed with Laurence Briere and Ben Khelifa was previously partnered with Everest Zhu.

If C/Z are on their game in the FD, they should be able to score better results, based on their ability and previous stats. It's interesting that Stapert/ Korotcov scored better on the JGP last season than they did at domestic comps. C/Z overall last season placed higher than S/K domestically and internationally, but some international results were comparative. Kouevi/ Homawoo, in 6th, are also a very good team and S/K's training mates.

The standout scoring results here are Vaclavikova/ Lissauer at 60+ points in second. They apparently have made significant improvements in their RD skills to score this high. Their score should help them prevail for second behind their training mates, after the FD. It's not a surprise to see Aboian/ Veselukhin in first at 65+ points.

Ah, thanks. I do not yet see the protocols, but I guess they have been posted. It looks like C/Z will need to work on their patterns in the RD. Hopefully, they can rework with their coaching team and do better next time out in the RD. I hope they are up to their better standard in the FD. I do think pulling the earlier start also hurt them. But, as we know, the Golden Waltz will be challenging for many teams, both junior and senior.

And wow, @bckabck. How cool for Aneta & William receiving 3 Yeses on pattern steps! I would imagine that Abo/ Ves is one of the few teams who received 2 Yeses.

A lot of teams will have to go back to the drawing board for the Golden Waltz pattern steps. It's going to be a 'bumpy ride' this season in the RD for many juniors and seniors. Still, ice dance needed to get back to these traditional pattern basics.

@bckabck, I see in the U.S. ice dance thread, you note that the problems many teams had was with the Westminster Waltz pattern steps.

Because I don't know anything about the technicalities or history of ice dance pattern steps, I checked the Internet to see what the connection could be between Westminster and Golden waltzes. And, oh boy! My oshgosh bigosh!

"The Westminster Waltz and the Golden Waltz are deeply connected as the two most elite, complex, and technically demanding waltzes in ice dance lineage. While they were created 50 years apart by different pioneers, they share identical stylistic DNA, and a legendary reputation for making or breaking elite teams."

I did have a feeling that Cui/Rogers would do well as their coach, Shpilband, has experience coaching winners (Virtue/Moir) in the Waltz back in the day. I was hoping that Neset/Markelov would have done better, but we'll see what the deduction was for. I am happy for the Mullens and nice to see a good comeback from last season. I am interested to see the Judges Scores once they're available.
