Mens' LP

Kozuka

4toe-fall, 3axel-3toe, 3flip, 3sal-2toe, 3lutz-2toe-2loop, 3loop, 3axel-two foot landing, 3lutz-very clean!!

Kurt made an interesting comment that kinda made me realize what I've found missing from Kozuka - he's definitely got it but he doesn't quite 'shine' and reach over the boards to the top of the audience. He still skates kind of 'into himself.' If he can get his presentation to reach the people in the nosebleeds he will be a force to be reckoned with!

I rather disagree. I can't really see much room for improvement in his second mark. If he gets his quad consistant, he will be unbeatable. He is already a force to be reckoned with.

Hmm, I remember really enjoying Kozuka's LP in the GP's. But for some reason I couldn't really sustain my attention during his LP today. He seemed a little tight/off, somehow. The jumps weren't as good either. Behind Evan but ahead of the Canadians?

Definitely agree there. I like watching him skate but I guess there's always been that something that I'm not quite getting when I watch him compared to other skaters. Nicely put, Kurt!

I agree. I really like his clean techniques and skating skills, his expression is also quite good but somehow he doesn't really leave strong image to me... Maybe he could start from adding some shiny things on his costume...

I think Takahiko has the lyrical style as much a Weir. He did admirably too. A couple of little boo boos will keep him from overtaking Evan, I think. Haven't seen the scores yet.

Takahiko Kozuka

Romeo & Juliet, Nino Rota

4t -- 2feet and fall, i think rotated
3a-3t ok
3f good
deathdrop to sitspin good
sl steps get applause
so does combo spin
3s-2t from spread eagle nice
crown engaged, clapping to music in circ steps
3lz-2t-2lo not flowy
3lo
3a lean and big 2-foot
3lz fine
combo spin closing in backscratch

warm audience response
i like the layout of this program... shame he wasn't clean on the 2nd 3a, would have been really effective.
Could maybe bring a touch more amplitude to his skating here, to express more (though it's hard to tell on a small computer screen...), but his flow looked good and audience seemed to respond to this.

145.15 -- 221.76 -- 2nd

Whoa, ahead of Vaughn in the LP? That I don't quite get. Especially with a DG 3a (according to Kurt) and what looked like a UR 4t (to me, but I didn't see the slo mo.)

And heeeeere's Patrick!

He said in an interview that he's not a "romantic" guy, but a rational one. Romeo and Juliet is not much rational.

Never liked Kurt's skating, he doesn't reach me.

:sheesh: I'm sure Kurt will toss and turn all night because of this revelation.

While I agree Kozuka could project more to the crowd, I also agree that he doesn't have to to get the marks... Johnny Weir is a prime example of this, IMHO. Some skaters just don't invite you in and ask for your participation.

Hey, he's only ahead by 0.34! I think Vaughn and Jeremy have proven that they can compete with the best and both place top ten at Worlds!

I'm kind of glad he popped the second 3A - don't want him to go clean here... save it for Worlds!! I'd have him ahead but not by a huge pile based on the quality of skating alone. And the jumps he did were pretty good to (except the popped axel and one shaky landing).

ETA about Evan's quad, Kurt said that he scored about 10 points on it, so looks like it WAS ratified (for whatever reason...)
