There is one thing that came to my mind: Chan had a nearly clean SP at Skate Canada this season and scored something around 77 I think. He had a clean SP at TEB and scored a bit over 81. - so if you consider these scores, now a 82 doesn't seem that outrageous to me. If you consider the 89 at 4CC, it is a big loss.

I like the ESPN article - everything sounds a lot better in that article.

I was stunned by the SP placements.

My order for the top 6 after the SP (final LP group) would have been:
1. Chan
2. Kozuka
3. Verner
4. Joubert
5. Contesti
6. Lysacek

I would have had Patrick and Takahiko extremely close, within a fraction of 1 point from each other. Taka was robbed again, plain and simple, I think.

Lysacek's orgasm on the ice/reaction to his SP was so over the top and totally obnoxious. You would've thought he just landed a quintuple Axel with the way he overreacted. He's such a drama queen. :p:rolleye:

Again, that's the difference between ordinal judging and the CoP.

Under ordinal judging, we get to say who we think skated best, who we think skated second best, etc.

But that's just not relevant any more.

thrusting or humping. I do believe when it comes to this level athletic competition, elements should matter more than artistry and choreography (those are always in an eye of beholder). Choreo should only be taken as tie-breaker. Now throw your stones.

I agree with you. Scoring over 82 with no quad is incredibly high already. I think Chan's score this time is about right. The result is just like what I thought before the competition. Although I would prefer Patrick placed over Evan - not by accounting tonight's actual performance, but by the personal preference. Joubert might be over scored but I don't mind. I am happy for Brian! Finally quad rules!!!:agree:

Maybe the judges were irritated by Chan's interview too.;)

On another note...I usually dont criticize the commentators. They have their opinions, I have mine.

But I think in this broadcast Scott and Sandra's apparent ignorance of and indifference to the judging system tricked the viewers in a way that can only be detrimental to the sport. When Joubert made a mistake on his quad combo, they said, this will take him out of contention for the championship. In fact (I haven't seen the protocols yet, so I might be wrong) he fully rotated both jumps and got full credit for them, losing only a point or two in GOE.

Two skaters later, Ponsero also had a less than perfect quad-triple combo. Scott and Sandra said, this will lose points just like Jouberts. Not exactly. I think Ponsero took two steps between the two jumps and received a required penalty for not doing a combo at all.

All during the event the commentators kept referring to Chan as the front runner and expected champion like there was no one else in the contest. After Chan skated and while they were waiting for his marks the only question in their minds was whether Chan would be ahead of Joubert by 10 points or only 5. Why? Because Lori Nichol gave Patrick such a pretty program.

To Scott and Sandra: This isn't 6.0, guys. Help us out by computing some of the points for us. Don't just sit their with your mouths hanging open like you've never heard of the CoP before and have no more clue than the rest of us about what is going on.

I thought it was inflated again, but it's prob b/c I compare it with what Kozuka's got for his skate, and I shouldn't be doing that.

Seriously, Chan should have gotten 72! He's scored is still so inflated!

The Chan haters finally has come out of the closet! BS with the "I have no problem with Chan" "He's a great skater, but..." Why don't you have the guts to admit that you hate him. That way, you will earn yourself a little bit of respect.

Quoi? Nobody said that he should have gotten 72. Or was that a joke I didn't get because it's already 5 a.m. here and I haven't slept for some time... Stupid timezones. I think I just might prefer the Earth as a disc.

Maybe it meant a lot to him to skate well after a rough season in front of a home crowd!

Scott often gave out wrong impression and opinions, very different from judges and sometimes even very different from anyone. Sadly his commentating, like any commentating, has had long lasting effect. Remember 2002 Olympics? I just think that TV should use him less. I miss Dick Button so much!

Tonight, I watched more skating than I have for over a year (last year, I watched Buttle's LP and that was it). The skating was very good, the judging was horrible. I know now why I won't be watching any more skating for some time. When they decide to clean up the judging, please call me and let me know.

ok!! what is your number?

I used to love Scott Hamilton but lately he is just way off and really annoying. He needs to be replaced by someone like Michael Weiss.

No Thank You, as annoying as he is, I will take Scott over Michael Weiss any day. But please bring back Paul Wylie, Peter Carruthers, and Terry Ganon. Keep Dick Button away please.

I thought Michael Weiss would make a great commentator. Plus I thought it would make his non profilt organization more well known and maybe bring more money in.

the energy in that arena was electric when he finished. I don't think he over-reacted either. This is the world in his backyard so to speak and he skated perfectly. he hasn't had the best season so I think this was really important for him.

Here are the scores for Performance/Execution, Choreography, and Interpretation

Joubert: 7.75, 7.70, 7.85

Chan: 7.50, 7.35, 7.40

Kozuka: 6.95, 7.05, 6.90

Boooooo. Kozuka's understated cool + Paul Desmond on saxaphone = 9.0!

Joubert overscored yet again, who would have thought.

I'm pretty sure I started the crowd booing when Chan's marks came up. He had the best program and the best skating skills.

Oh, speaking of this, I was offended at the way the crowd was pushed into clapping for the Americans. After all of the Americans skated, the jumbotron lighted up and said "CLAP LOUDER!!!". This was not done for any of the competitors. Only the Americans.

When the crowd burst into a standing ovation at Lysacek's performance I sat in my seat and rolled my eyes. Yeah, he did a good job, but it was hardly orgasmic.

yeah, the nerve cheering for the home team

no one had a gun to anyone's head. you could have started the boo for that, too.
