Dance - Free

What a crazy night of skating. And I didn't even get to see it all!

DomShabs- IMO, the best we've seen from them in quite awhile. It looked as though they rearranged some of the choreography, but that just be because we haven't seen it in so long. Bravo to Maxim for his knees holding up through that.

Belbin/Agosto- I didn't get to see any of it until the end, and it looked a little sloppy to me. They also didn't get a very big reaction from the crowd, which I found interesting. But seeing Tanith get all emotional at the end there nearly made me a little weepy.

Virtue/Moir- Definite improvement over 4CC. I really enjoyed that. It was not as clean as I've come to expect them (in healthy standards) but for them to do that with so little training is remarkable.

Davis/White-I won't deny it, I'm guttted for them. Has the gap between 3rd and 4th ever been that close? I know it's been about .29 or something, but .04 is kinda ridiculous. And I didn't even get to see the entire thing!! But they had a wonderful reaction from the crowd, they were standing up practically before it was even over. Hopefully they continue to improve even more over this off-season.

Khokhlova/Novitski- Can you say major dumping? I was not expecting that at all, and it looked like they didn't either. But they didn't help themselves this week; the weird Paso, somewhat weak OD, and a kinda lackluster FD. It might just be me, but they also looked slower than the other teams in the top 6.

Pechalat/Bourzat- Again didn't get to see the whole thing, but loved what I saw!!

Just as a side note, on the whole I liked the construction of the Sphilband teams over Linichuk. I know I might be one of the few, but the Linichuk FDs just weren't as interesting to me. JMO.

I still can't get over the fact that P&B shot up so much, even past K&N, and still came up one spot short to get 3 for next year.

I am sad for D/W nowhere V/M should have been at that podium this year.

But overall, ironically this was one of better judged dance competitions lately.

Hmm. It possibly had something to do with the fact that:

- Tanith and Ben should have won
- Tanith and Ben actually had an interesting program, unlike the Russians
- Oxygen is a US channel and the US audience cares more about the US team that should have won than being smacked in the face one last time by the team that shouldn't have won

Let me know if you want me to continue that list for you.

All I have to add is thank heavens you weren't one of the judges tonight. BRAVO DOMNINA/SHABALIN, WORLD CHAMPIONS!!!

Glad to see Tanith and Ben happy and not glum and depressed like someone else last night, oh, I don't know, maybe Brian? :sheesh: Anyway, lovely podium, just gutted for D/W.

ETA: What, no flowers for the guys? Methinks the men are jealous! ;)

Tanith smiles a lot, yes.

Ok, so let me rephrase that. At least they make a very good effort to be appreciative and happy for themselves, the winners and the crowd instead of only doing an obligatory smile for the photographer once it's all over.

I didn't care at all for Tanith and Ben's program. Whomever said it was heavy had it dead on!! They just don't do heavy serious pieces at all well, so whichever one of the team came up w/them doing Tosca needs their head examined.

It was their coaches that convinced them to do it. Tanith never even gave it a thought because it was too overused...

To whoever said Virtue/Moir medaled because of their CD, well they were also gifted in the OD. Davis/White should have been ahead of them after the OD, and then they would have medaled.

Be happy on an effort? Hm... Isn't that the same as obligatory?

I don't think they're forcing it, but whatever. Nobody likes a debbie downer at a ceremony; it just makes things awkward for the winner. I know Brian was gutted last night, but the man could have made a little effort not to look so depressed.

I love Maxim!! His singing their National anthem on the podium with such joy and gusto made me heart glad for them. I can't imagine their mental and emotional fortitude after last season's disappointment and fighting through this season again. They really deserved that moment.

Hopefully, D/W will get that chance in the future too. Their time is still in front of them.

D/W:cry::cry::cry:love the free dance
They had a great season
GPF bronze
Nationals gold
4CC gold
Worlds 4th so close.

Out of curiosity, anyone know the translation of the motto on the medals? I've always wondered, but never remember to ask...LOL!!!

Now those are lovely bouquets, but then again I adore Lilies, so....:)

Awww....Oksana and Maxim were so cute on the podium. It was something to watch Oksana's face during it though. At the beginning, you could see it hadn't quite sunk in yet she was really experiencing what she was experiencing. A few seconds later, she started having that unshed tears gleam in her eyes and you could see she was choked up. A few seconds after that, I think it hit her they'd done it and she started singing along w/Maxim.

I did a double take thanks to him though. Whenever Maxim looked up, I swear I could be looking at David Wenham who played Faramir in LOTR. It's there when he's looking dead on to the camera too, but not as strikingly as it is when he looks up. Eerie!!!

Was it just me or did Tanith look pretty ticked off at certain parts of the Medal Ceremony? She was smiling, but it wasn't reaching her eyes. Maybe it's just me being so hellishly tired, but...
