Dance - Free

Once again, Canada very close to 3 spots but so far away! Total of 15 instead of 13. Just like 14 in men and 15 in pairs.

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR WORLD TITLE, DOMNINA/SHABALIN!!!

YOU DESERVE IT!!! :love::bow::clap::rock::love::bow::yes:

Well at least they did make them go through the formality of skating a program.

Also, since Tanith & Ben have 2 world silver and 2 world bronze, then next year when they are forced to accept another silver or bronze, they will have a full house, and that is a pretty strong hand.

I think that was to be expected in the dance event. C/P skated very well, as well as could possibly have been expected IMO, as did V/M. I am disappointed about pairs, as three pairs in the top 10 really should count for something, even if they are in the bottom half of the top 10. And I never had any expectation that the men would qualify three either. It was possible, but also quite possible that they not do even as well as they did.

Now those are lovely bouquets, but then again I adore Lilies, so....:)

Awww....Oksana and Maxim were so cute on the podium. It was something to watch Oksana's face during it though. At the beginning, you could see it hadn't quite sunk in yet she was really experiencing what she was experiencing. A few seconds later, she started having that unshed tears gleam in her eyes and you could see she was choked up. A few seconds after that, I think it hit her they'd done it and she started singing along w/Maxim.

I did a double take thanks to him though. Whenever Maxim looked up, I swear I could be looking at David Wenham who played Faramir in LOTR. It's there when he's looking dead on to the camera too, but not as strikingly as it is when he looks up. Eerie!!!

Thanks for sharing your impressions of the medal ceremony. I didn't have the opportunity to watch it. :)

I will admit that I am disappointed that B/A did not win this competition.

Congratulations to D/S for winning the Gold and also to B/A and V/M. All of the medalist have battled injuries this season and for Max he has had a tough time with injuries for the past 2 seasons.
Also Congrats to D/W loved their FD.

Off I go ...

It's past 3 am here and Cuervo has helped me a little too much...
So I'm not separating my thoughts in shallow/important (like anyone cares :p)

Oksana Domnina / Maxim Shabalin
Congratulations on your very deserved world title !!!
They looked so happy... Max was priceless on the k&c.
And broke the (so called) curse of junior world champions teams not winning at seniors.
I liked the new costumes (next to past season's they are super chic) but it killed my Barbie and He-Man joke...(I was planning it for Euros, but they pulled out...). Anyway, it's Lady of Darkness Barbie now

Belbin/Agosto
Sooo close... definetively not their style of program, but at least now they have experimented and will make better choices for next season (I hope). A bit of a lackluster program, but they pulled through after so many were writing them out.
And, oh. Domnina from last season called: she wants her hair back (same to you Aliona)

Davis/White
Most Improved of the Season :agree:
Fabulous free dance. Great OD. And the thoughts that there is still room for improvement for them only makes me look forward for the seasons to come

Virtue/Moir
Serious injuries, lack of training... glad to see them perform well. Overscored here, but... I would like to see some more diverse expressions from them in the future (I still don't get the transition to 'Money'... but that could be Zoueva's fault)

Pechalat/Bourzat
Nice clowns !!! Nicely skated. And i'm happy that they are 5th because that means that they get to skate the exhibition, and I heard of a shirtless Fabian program.:love:

Khokhlova/Novitski
Well, better skating next season, and use the momentum you had after this year's euros... Not my favorites, but I hope they get better. Oh, and no costumes that look like vegetables.

Kerrs
    no matter what the judges say.

Everyone was overscored here, but hey, it's the last comp of the season.

Worst costume: Blanc/Bouquet. Bad, bad, bad, bad... F/L actually loked kinda decent tonight...

Hot Man of the Day Trophee
1 Jost (I'm a sucker for men in suits, specially good looking ones)
2 Bourzat
3 Hermann (same reason as Jost)

Honorable mentions: Scali (am I the only one that thought he was hot even before the haircut?) and, what the heck, Shabalin (he is not bad at all when his nostrils aren't wide open).

Did I forget anything ?

Unfortunately, for B/A, it is difficult to win Olympic gold without first winning a world title.

This weeks result goes to show that ice dancing will never change.

I guess this thread went so well (no bitching) because people are still fighting on the ladies' thread...

The gold medalists had an ineffable RUSSIAN
quality which really captivated the RUSSIAN
audience.

It was definitely the best RUSSIAN
free dance of the night!

Domnina/Shabalin skated well tonight. So did Tanith and Ben, but they were a bit flat tonight. Anyways, all this Russian-bashing gets so tiresome, we hear enough of it already from certain commentators.

I forgot to mention before - what a great skate by Pechalat and Bourzat. A 360 from their season debut at Skate Canada. Natalie especially has seemed to gain power and speed across the ice by leaps and bounds this season. I always used to think she was kind of tentative and careful- not fully capable of pushing out when stroking around but I am revising that opinion. She was the solid one as opposed to Fabian who struggled a bit. I wonder if he might be injured or something since he had the same balance issues in the OD and it looks like they changed one of their balance-on-his-groin lifts. (Pure speculation)

Their sense of humor and original style really had me rooting for them.

I can't wait to see what they come up with next season. I hope they don't have some bland Tosca/Carmen overdone FD choice. Which I could never imagine them doing.

I don't think they're meant to be clowns, more like circus performers, which is not exactly the same. She is the only woman in figure skating who could have pulled off that dress, I think. Missysays - I can't imagine any scenario in which they would choose something generic. Nathalie has said something along the lines that doing things "the French way" (which I take means, putting out something original) is really important to them.

Here's what Nathalie and Fabian wore at the EX in Euros. It's a mummy program (not the movie soundtrack, though), and I don't really love it - but they might do a different one in LA.

A pity the French dancers couldn't get that third spot :frown:. But as a positive for P/B, they just finished ahead of all three teams that beat them out for the podium at Euros!

I wrote on another thread that some people love to throw around accusations that skaters from their country get bashed, and then turn and bash other skaters, Domnina and Shabalin being a good example. I'm not a huge fan, but when I saw their FD at GPF I thought it had potnetial, and if they performed it well last night, good for them.

I loved their free dance.
