I just find him very funny, the thread dedicated to him very entertaining, nothing personal!

Ant, you're right!! I always respected Plush for his great skill. I just felt like he went into the comp knowing he was going to win and took advantage of the situation by doing a lack luster routine. Again, I felt cheated. After the other performances, I thought Plush will save the day. I sat with mouth open, saying where's my program.
Ant, don't you think Seniorita is kind of a Rebal Rouser and Riot Inciter??

No, the judges could not automatically give Plushenko what he wanted, even if they wanted to. Plushenko was facing tremendous pressures from all directions and from inside and out. Everyone believed he could win, but what if? It was a really nerve racking "what if". It was like once in a life time opportunity to get an Olympic gold medal. If he couldn't get it that time, he may never get it. Imagine under those circumtances, all eyes were on him, how difficult could that be? I think that he sacrificed choreography (he knew that) to secure his win because he did not truly believe that with an all around program he could guarantee his gold since Joubert, Lambiel, and Takahashi were very competitive too jump wise. Also Lambiel, Takahashi, and Weir were very competitive in the artistic area.

I don't think Dai was considered a major contender back then, just a talented but mostly unproven guy - yes, I do realize he'd once been junior world champion; still, as a senior he hadn't done much in major events. My guess is that Plushy saw Stephane and Brian as his main competitors. As it turned out, neither skated that well; the standard was poor, otherwise Lambiel would have been off the podium. After his LP, the Eurosport guys did not expect him to medal.

I didn't say anything about the judges.
I guess if you want to believe that. He was 10 points ahead of everyone after the SP.

I honestly don't believe that he was afraid of any of them. You believe what you want to and I will do the same. We're both right because it's what we believe.

Can a skater be sure he will win because he is the favorite to win? and if so, how must it feel to have fallen in previous Olympics and know this is your last ones to get the medal you miss and want.
From the point i see it, plushy hold it until 2006 for this 4 minutes, gave everything he had in his sp, and apart from weir it is not his fault that the rest didnt skate well and they were far behind these two. In godfather apart from anything else he didnt do, he seemed in his own world, like he didnt enjoy his moment. I think he had pressure from himself, coach, federation,and probably his mum..

I was in the Palavela for both the mens' short and long in '06, and thought Plushenko was absolutely in a class by himself. I noticed his free skate was choreographically disjointed, but put this down to the pressure of the occasion as well as Mishin's well-known propensity to have multiple choreographers from the ballet world work on the programs. Technically, I thought there was no comparison between Plushenko and the others, and whatever shortcomings "The Godfather" may have had in terms of transitions was overcome by Plushenko's sheer force of personality. In terms of power, commitment, confidence, he was in a league of his own.
Whether the judges should have marked him a point or so lower, in terms of one of the two components -- possibly, but at that point, I think they were still feeling their way around IJS. And of course, judges are human and not perfect, and still have trouble at times assigning PCS. But I thought the order of finish was correct pretty much down the line.

I can't believe Plushy was under pressure. He has said that the only competitor he felt could win was Lambiel - probably because Lambiel landed a beautiful quad toe and a quad toe/3 toe. Plushy knew he had the jumps and his hernia had long healed up. He's always been ahead of the others so they didn't worry him. No pressure for Plushy. He's a cool competitor.

Still i find it difficult that he was not pressured, as he only wanted the gold and it was his last chance. And he was beaten by joubert and sandu previous years and he knew lambiel could be that good, a lot of things happen in 4.5 minutes. Maybe not much after sp, but If he didnt feel the pressure to deliver, he would have made at least his bravura moves as you say, but he didnt do even that. I cant believe he went cool in Torino, his whole approach to this Olympics was different than SLC.
Plush had said also Sandu was the man he was afraid, the whole Mishin camp was out watching his spand he was right, if sandu delivered he could beat him, But that was a big If.

How could that be so difficult to understand?:scratch: The more the public expected, the more pressure would be put on him and by him. Ice is slippery. He had a great chance to win but it was not guaranteed.
