No... I am also a woman! (friends and acquaintances always say I look a bit like Salma Hayek - but I am taller than her, despite being a tad on the short side for a German woman)

I have a large problem switching between languages when it is necessary and thats ends up speaking like an ufo in any language including greek

Oh, I hate it when that happens. I was Au-pair girl in France in an English family and there were about 3 weeks during that stay, when my brain simply didn't know the difference between French and English and I basically spoke half / half, even in one sentence. So embarrassing. And before that stay my English pronounciation was excellent - but because of the stay in France I speak English now with a slight French accent. Makes for a good joke though, when I was in Scotland last year my looks + the accent made it unbelievable to people that I am actually from Germany.

And seniorita, I always thought you were Spanish, because of your name. Then you tell me that you live like a few kilometres from here. So I obviously thought that you were Belgian. But suddenly you write that you are actually Greek (which is by the way on my list of languages that I won't try to learn in my lifetime - when I visit Greece I will try to get by with my knowledge of Ancient Greek). You had me totally confused.

Yes i know, I get confused myself sometimes of where i am and what language to speak , when I m pissed off (lets say in a bank) i start with french, half sentence i switch to english and at the end I swear like a trooper in greek :rolleye:
Seniorita is a song by James that a friend has said it sounds like me...I m just emotional connected to it :)
 
Actually seniorita is contagious - in a good way.:biggrin: You brought a lot more humors and eased tentions. No wonder everybody likes you. Well, it's off topic but it's a way to keep Plushenko thread on top if we don't have any more news about him to offer.;)

Never mind Evgeni: he can wait and go on training;) By the way: how many languages do you all speak??? Ecxept my native German I only speak a bit English and a very tiny bit of Russian. Know the problem of confusing languages, though, because I miss so much vocabulary in Russian that I tend to begin my sentences in this language but switch to English in the middle of the sentence. That happens quite automatically.

Language is a very funny thing. I tend to speak to my parents in what can only be called spanglish! I use spanish as a base but if a word does not immediately come to mind it comes out in English! It is usually idiomatic english phrases or things that are not easilty translated so my brain just selects the quickest way to communicate and out it comes.

My biggest issue with language was when i was 5 and first learnt English. I'd been brought up speaking spanish, we moved to Italy where i started speaking Italian and then adding english was too much for my brain to cope with so i had a terrible stutter for a bout 6 months. It was only recitifed by bombarding me with one language only until i was able to communicate comfortable again and then adding the other languages again later on!

This thread has gotten so off-topic it's ridiculous - but in a good way! Much more fun than going over Plushy's 2006 Olys performance yet again ;). I only speak two languages myself, and the other one is secret :biggrin:. Though my guess is that some of you can figure out what it is by now.

Actually, this is Medusa. It's a stuffed animal I got when I was 11(?). I was deeply into Greek mythology back then and then my mother brought me this weird stuffed animal. I called her Medusa and that was also the main name I use for all things Internet. She has her own distinctive personality, personal history and everything. And you freeze if you look into her eyes. She isn't really healthy anymore, so she sits on my bookshelves all the time, like in the photo above.

Now I have 30 seconds to decide if I want to delete this childish post before anyone reads it.

Robin Right looked like a princess to me in old days, I thought she was live Barbie, I was jealous of her hair.
I have read so many versions of Medusa in different languages, I almost forget what she really was. But few quick notes.
Medusa in greek mythology was one of three gorgons, the only mortal and the most beautiful one. She also had a second name, Gorgo, meaning intense look.
Posidon wanted her (probably to make out with her) so he transformed as the horse she was ridding while she was in the holy area of Athena. Athena got fierce (jealous probably, women...) and while she couldnt attack to the Olympian God (that is Posidon not Evgeni :p) she attacked with all her rage to Medusa and transformed her in a monster with snakes instead of hair, everyone who looked at her was petrified(literally). Actually when I think of the name Medusa, I have the image of an aerial beautiful woman with a ruth (?i m not sure about this word) destiny.
