Just HOW will the U.S. teams be picked?

Also Sasha is COMPETING at nationals. There was an article saying so. She's attempting flip and lutz and has 6 triples planned in the free. I'm pissed.:scowl:
I think it will be interesting to watch how she can skate in competition after three or more years without. But I'm not yet convinced that she's going to compete... It's just a feeling

^ How can Sasha attempting a flip and a Lutz make you mad?

Haha, because they are hard jumps and I feel like if she shows up at nationals she WILL be on the Olympic team regardless of how she performs, and probably definitely if she lands flip and lutz. I'd just rather see two ladies that have been competing recently go, Rachael and Ashley have good international resumes, but i'm interested to see how Alissa or Mirai would stand compared to the competition if they went to the Olympics and did well. Sasha has never really competed against the top guns that will be at the Olympics so it kind of messes everything up.

I'm still not convinced Sasha will be there. I will wait until I actually see her in the start order for the SP and she actually skates.

She also indicated she'd gone through 3 pairs of boots in the last few months. So she's had injury and boot problems that cut into her practice time. Just how well-prepared can she really be after not competing for nearly four years? That's why I'm still skeptical that she'll actually be at Nationals ready to go.

That also shows how determined she is to make this happen. If she was going to quit she would have quit when the going was tough. Now she is ready to shine. I CAN'T WAIT for nationals!!!!

That's what she SAYS. :p Doesn't mean it'll HAPPEN. ;)

Red Dog, I can't believe you are not taking Sasha at her word. Don't her declarations deserve respect? Now, why would she say that she definitely plans to compete and then not show up? (Well, at least you can't see me laughing as I write this ;-)

You can laugh all you want, but she did say she was "confident" she would be at skate America. And then the week of the competition came and what did we get? ;)

Come on people, even Ashley Wagner isn't convinced. There are people at frickin' Sashafans that aren't convinced. Her own FAN forum, guys!! That about says it all. Some people seem to act like I'm the only one. Hell, not even in this thread.

RD, I think you missed the irony in Krenseby's post.

I think the frustration comes from the "Charlie Brown syndrome." No matter how many times Lucy snatches that football away, we have faith the this time it will be different.

I guess I'm not old enough to understand your reference but I think I understand the gist of what you're saying. It's something like the Boy Who Cried Wolf, but you want to believe the boy every time, right?

Yes exactly. I sometimes feel this way about Alissa's LP, thinking this time, she's going to land all 6 triples and they will all be rotated, and I haven't seen that happen yet but I bet THIS YEAR AT NATIONALS IT WILL . I also do this with Joannie's 3-3, I always think she will finally do it in competition but she hasn't yet.

Didn't this happen in 2007? Nationals- it was crazy, like she pulled a clean skate out of thin air after being her usual self for over a year...

Good Grief! Am I that old?

In the Peanuts comic strip by Charles Schultz, every football season there would be a couple of cartoons about Lucy holding the football for Charlie Brown to kick a field goal. Then Lucy would snatch the ball away at the last moment and Charlie Brown...

wait a minute, do do know who Charlie Brown is, right?

Charlie Brown would fall on his back. Then there would be some kind of joke at the end.

But the thing was, Charlie Brown -- like Job in the Bible -- continued to have faith, through thick or thin, no matter what happened. A man of lesser courage and conviction might have been discouraged (to quote Job's friends, "why don't you just curse God and die, Charlie Brown?"), but not our Charlie.

Yeah, it did, one of her jumps was 2footed and UR, but she popped the lutz in the short so she only got 3rd. My dream is for her to do a clean short AND long, with all the triples planned. She looks pretty good in that sendoff skate, hopefully she can keep it up. Even though I don't think she has a great chance of medaling if she goes to the Olympics, if she's clean and does all the jumps, I could see her finishing 5th or 6th and that would make me very happy :agree:

I see. Thanks for the explanation.

Where'd you see it?

Thanks to MisticChic for the vid. Alissa did six triples plus a 2A+2A sequence. No falls. Two jumps possibly questionable about full rotation (the second jump in the program (flip) and her solo Lutz (step out).) Her triple loop was perfect for the first time this season. Very good run-out on all of her jumps.

Thanks. it remains to be seen how she'll do under the spotlight but there's potential.

ETA: after actually watching it (as best I could- the camera shake was seriously making my head spin) it looks like she did sort of squat once (maybe UR/stumble?) and had a funny landing on another jump- it was not a clean performance by any stretch, but still, it could be competitive at Nats particularly if everyone else makes major errors.
