Is the Asada-Kim rivalry back on?

I guess people just love the rivalry.

I am interested in whether Mao can also break her 200 record at 4cc, and whether she will make more changes to her program.
I thought her programs at nationals had less choreography, but they were clean. Is it the better strategy for the olympics?

I hope this rivary thing won't put too much pressure on these poor girls. Obviously it will help selling tickets and raise tv ratings, but I don't want to see them suffer from all this media pressure. Bah

Poor things, that is a very nitty gritty article. I'm sure everyone has an opinion on this issue, but it really just comes down to who does better at the Olympics. The ice will be slippery, the result is unclear.

I agree Well I guess everyone should be respectful of both skaters...No need for some Yu-Na or Mao bots......

Personally, I think that Mao's newfound success @Nationals is good in the sense that it will push her and give her the confidence to do well at the Olympics. Hopefully, there will be a close competition and not just some blow out by Yu-Na with the rest of the field.

It would have been better if they actually previewed some of the Japanese skaters for the ladies , instead of just a mention of them. But I guess since it's universal sports they need to devote a good amount of time to the American skaters, even though they are not likely to be major players

I agree, but there are so many good Japanese lady skaters that I think if they had mentioned all of them it would have taken up most of the time. I do wonder why they didn't mention Caroline or Alissa though, considering they are two of contenders for the Olympic spots.

Yes! Yuna said in a recent interview that it's herself who's standing alone on the ice when the music starts. She's clearly not thinking about any rivalry which is good sign. Everyone has their own opinions and interests, so let be it.

They can try to make comparisons between the two in terms of things not even related to skating, for example the girls' english skills. Here's an interesting link that show korean netizens comparing the two girls in traditional clothing. In my opinion, they both look great! :agree:

Not that I'm saying that is the case with Mao and Yuna, though...

Nice pictures, Yuna looks gorgeous as always but Mao is looking good in these pictures too. I have always gotten the sense that Mao is more sporty and jockish than Yuna, so it's nice to see her all dressed up in pink! :agree:

Mao had a coupla bad skates. Some folks blew the results out of proportion and proclaimed it to be the end of her career, or at the least, the end of her time as one of the best in world. Call it beginning of the Olympic season jitters/insanity ; Joannie has suffered from the same malady. Heck, Yuna made some uncharacteristic mistakes in her early comps; Until this season, had she ever botched a triple-triple combo, or decided to omit a triple the way she passed on the flip at TEB?

Did the rivarly end when Yuna fell down and failed to win her long program at 2007 worlds? Nope, and it's not going to end with Mao's early season collapse. They're the two best overall skaters in the world, whether they land their jumps on their blades or their backsides.

I agree. It just happens that Yuna's rise to the top coincided with Mao's unusual slump, providing a stark contrast that leads some people to dismiss their rivalry. I hope their rivalry does not end because it makes figure skating more exciting

Thanks for the link. Interesting piece but I agree with you that the comparison to Shawn and Nastia doesn't work. They were on the same team striving for a common goal in the team competition but trying to win for themselves as individuals during the overall competition (although the medals were also for the country.) I guess it was used because it was latest rivalry that Americans may remember (since USA Today is an American newspaper.)
