Men's Short Program.. Tuesday 16th, 7:15PM EST

I'm pretty sure 75% of this forum/thread would disagree with you.

If you look in the protocols the Germans got + for the twirls, and if you rememer they were horrible... Sometimes the points lack logic...You get a better understanding from overall scores.

I can not say coz I haven't seen his performance yet(((

Gee , I forgot to mention Brezina, he has got a name ( which is bound to grow on the strength of his performance here), and he has got pretty good transitions,I think..Good for him,and good for us, since he'll only get better.

BTW ,I didn't mean that Plushy had the third best use of music ,over all.. just that of the top three, he used his music far less well than the other two..basically, he skates right over the top of it.He does deserve to be in the top 3 though.

OTOH I sense an innate musicality in Borodulin, so I truly hope he doesn't just try to copy Plushy.

An arrogant jerk.

I'll bet a lot of people think Plushenko is a douche. But I think he's scruffy and lovable.

Yeah, me too. Plushenko gets away with it. It comes across as just plain confidence. I dunno, somehow he pulls off saying what he really thinks. Maybe it's because his skating backs him up.

I've got no opinion on Plushenko, but I wish he'd change his hair...

General remarks

What made me cry

- an event which has obviously made me depressed which I'll comment in detail later in this post
- Tomas's program
- Patrick's Sp not being as gorgeouse as it usually is
- Stéphane being 6 points behind Plush
- I don't know if it's just me, but I found the general comppetition unexciting

What I loved

- Welcome back Johnny!
- Evan's breath of fresh air - I'm not hos biggest fan, but his performance was great

Brian's monumental cock-up

Needless to say I'm semi-depressed.
It was obvious that Brian was going to make a mistake in his SP - he's barely had any good ones this season. I personnaly believe it would have been a good thing if he's Sp had a mistake to he'd have, say 78 points, that wa he'd just give it all he's got in his LP.
THIS however was unexpected - Brian himself fails to explain the mistake on the 3Lz. I have been sceptical about his preparattion for these Olys this last season, but this performance was anormal for several reasons. Firstly the atmosphere in the stadium wasn't tense - Brian was one of the only stressed skaters there. I personnaly didn't like the atmosphere, because although it wasn't tense, I'd say it was inexistant, not like in Göteborg which was one big party. Secondly, after he made the mistake on his quad, he didn't get angry and just give it all he's got - he just faded away, which was why his PCS were low, as his program only works when he really interprets it. I personnaly am sceptical as to whether laurent depouilly is the coach he needs on the side of the rink, but that's another debate. The main problem seems to have been how stressed-out he was.

What can Brian do now? He may chose to just do his job, but I believe it would be a mistake. IMHO, Brian has a unique opportunity, not to win a medal (let's be realistic) but to do the program he has been dreaming of. He has nothing to loose, except maybe his reputation, and everythinng to gain. Brian has always wanted to do a quady program: go for it! He wants to proove he's an artist: just skate with your guts. Brian is a champion, he's a warrior, he can't loose without a fight, he must die in dignity. He is from the same country as Surya Bonaly: doing a memorable performance at the Olys while being miles away from the podium is far not impossible. In France we have a saying (which comes from Napoleon): impossible isn't French.
Brian should just go out there, enjoy himself, to do the most insane risk-taking program he can dream of.

Well I just found it unusual you spoke of "no one could talk him out of it" without mentioning this is what you read somewhere.

That very part was a speculation. Daisuke's been asked about the quad a million times, has attempted it many times, landed it in some competitions and didn't land in some other. Still, he firmly believes in having one. iirc, back in Morozov's coaching days, the two didn't always agree on the jump layout. In his new coaching situation Daisuke seems to be the one who makes the calls reg the jumps, music choices and costumes, so I assume there's no person on his current team who's capable of getting him as far as to reconsider (in case someone wanted to). They all seem to support his decisions 100 % and - what inevitably follows - the risks. Starting with competitions after FT Daisuke's been going for a quad in every lp (with the exception of one), which makes me believe it's the team's strategy.

Jeremy just can't hang with the big dogs. Thank god for Evan Lysacek. This is why a good competitor is always better than someone who has "artistry" but can't put it together when it counts.

In Russia he has never said a bad word about anyone, he said it would be great competing again, he gave credit to all the opponents and said it would be tough. He came back inspired by his wife, hie former gave him only scandals and departed him with his son. He may seem arrogant, he admits that he likes number one in everything, very reserved.

By the way I completely disagree about his lack of artistry his jumps create intension in the air, you're held under pressure during entire performance, his skating is very powerful and impressive.

But I must say today's Evan's program was pitch and music perfect, with all accents, a real masterpiece! Plushy's skating is not as relaxed as it used to be, but that's only because of lack of competing practice.

Moreover our preferences can hardly coincide, because we grow up in different countries, meaning we support the skating school of our country, what is considered best in one country can be considered too much and not good in the other country. It's up to judges to decide and support this or that school.

I think even Chan has a legitimate chance on podium if he skates perfectly tomorrow. Dai hasn't convinced me in LP yet and though Plushy and Evan are two of the most consistent skaters we have these days, who knows what might happen tomorrow..

Sorry, but being more than 9 points out of 3rd place doesn't add up to a "legitimate chance". Maybe if Chan had no problem jumps, he might have had a shot, but Chan has never skated perfectly in international competition.

I'm afraid Chan psyched himself out with all of his boasting about his transitions, choreo and footwork. He stepped out of the 3A (again), stumbled on the footwork, and botched his fiinal spin. Maybe Plushenko had a point about talking to the media before a competition being bad luck.

I used to love Plushenko's programs back at the 02 Olympics. Now I simply can't stand them. Is it too much to ask to have dance and choreography that actually go with the music? imo, Daisuke should be #1 after the short. I also think that Johnny's performance was good enough for 4th or even 3rd; definitely not 5th.
