Men's Free Skate - Thurs, 18th 8pm EST

I read here when I woke up and I m amazed a little bit , in not good way. I can hardly see any consipracy and this coming from a huge Plushy fan. What conspiracy? Evgeni lost to himself for not having the CoP friendly program and from all the genious of Mishin, I still cannot shallow it. It hurts and it will hurt probably for long time this small distance from the gold.

You work so many years on the circuit, your skaters comes back, you fight illness, age and smashed knees and you give him less weapons to fight in his programs??? This goes for his music in Sp, major drawback and the jump layout in Lp. Age and all, PLush saved this insane 3axel and 3lutz, he was capable of landing something more than a 2axel in second half. I dont know why they didnt have a backup plan. When Plush finished his skate I was already blurred with tears, I knew he would not win Lysacek the moment he didnt do a 3 combo. But tears were of happyness that I was privileged to see him again in Olys, my dad woke up to see evgeni also and he told me to believe in fairytale and be inspired by it.

So i try to keep this although today I feel awful bad and not because of who won or lost but of Plush sad face in KnC. I wish he knew this is a majopr thing he managed. I m waiting for Stephane and Plush show tour now, I think I want to enjoy them for now on in shows and dont need to worry about their marks, otherwise I will lose the joy of fs.

On a happy note I laughed because the crowd was shouting at Plush '4 more years', i found it cute. :) I really believe Mr Button can sleep calm:), I dont see a skater breaking his record for many many years more, Plush was one of the few who could do it. I dont know when we will see the next one.

The only way for Lysacek to be treaten as a champion is to ask ISU to give Plushenko a second gold medal. Plushenko would get his well deserved gold and ebd, would stunning about Lysacek personality. ;-)

167.37 from Lysacek. new Personal best. Great job Evan.

He's not my favorite, and the performance wasn't exactly my favorite either, but Lysacek brought it tonight.

Aw, Oda's little bowtie and outfit is so adorable.

Chiisai Chapurin. I think that program does him well.

I really hope that Nobu opts to keep that program for a second season. It's perfect for his personality (hee hee and maybe bring back Super Marios for his SP to go with it!)

Even though I'm not a Plushy fan, he should be very proud of being a 3-time Olympic medalist. I mean 1G and 2S is not too shabby and to come back after a long absence to be thisclose to another gold is amazing to watch. But once I saw that wonky landing on the quad and then on the 3A, it was over. He was gonna lose points on the GOE, which would end up being the dealbreaker for him.

And if Plushy comes back at 31 for Sochi for medal #4 then hey, more power to him.

Now let me hope that he doesn't skate to "Believe" next Saturday. Now let's relax and enjoy what is left of Senorita's popcorn! :)

Cheer up Senorita. In 4 more years the revenge will happen on Plush's home turf in Socci.

:)
I really hope he wont come back. It doesnt worth the pain and effort. I wish him to eat all the pizza and red wine in the world now and enjoy skating outside competitions. Time for the new kids to emerge now.

At my present state of mind I do hope it is a sweet sweet revenge - I hope the US has an actual deserving skater and he loses it all to a mediocre Russian! Ah, what a lovely day it would be. And I'd just smile. Never going to happen of course, but it actually makes me long for the old USSR when there was at least some balance, no matter how horrid it all was. Blah.

i think that what evernone want to say is that even takahashi, plushy, and lambiel could win if quads are not neccesary for the gold.

I checked the results and both Lysacek and Plushenko got the same PCS scores, which I agree. Despite what the NBC commentaries said about Evan's program being more artistic, I think they were both equally unengaging. I think the judges got it right this time because they were the only two who were the cleanest but Plushenko lost because some of his landings were a bit shaky. However, I think Weir was underscored and I think he and Dai were the most engaging performers of the night.

Can't believe Elvis thought Plushy was robbed! If there someone who was robbed last night, it was Johnny!
I agree with you 100%...but he made me so proud of him when he took it and motioned for the audience not to booooooo!!!

An outrageous scandal! Evgeni Plushenko was completely robbed. Men's field has been degraded.
And a mediocre skater, with average jumps and questionable (even from his fellow countrymen) artistry has become Olympic Champion...
Its a shame and I am very sorry for the sport.
There should be some people resigning today after this theft of the gold medal from Evgeni.

I thought Evan deserved the gold, and he got it. Skating's about more than the jumps. It's about the all-around performance, and in that respect, Evan was the obvious choice.
So proud of you, Evan...... for the last five-six years, you have never failed to bring me happiness during the competitions. I support you in the best of the best and the worst of the worst. I will believe in you, always. I knew you could do this. I cried with you of happiness after your program. You deserve this. Enjoy every second of it and don't let the haters get you down.:biggrin::rolleye:;):)
Johnny was totally underscored...... he deserved bronze, maybe even silver....
Evgeny's just bitter. He already has one gold, and it was very selfish to think he deserved another. There's only one figure skating gold. This isn't one of the race sports, where you can win in several events. Give someone else a chance, Plush.

I hope the ISU goes back and retools COP to reward quad attempts. Watching the men last night, I thought Daisuke would pass Evan with his free skate. His elements and overall skating- as well as his jumps and his attempted quad were so much better and in the spirit of the games.

I don't know what to say about Plush. My heart breaks that the judges didn't recognize a great champion and reward him with gold. However I agree with seniorita's entire post that after all that fighting to return in spite of the injuries and age, he was let down by his program construction. I don't know how much of it is due to "arrogance" or legitimate concerns about stamina. Plush was fighting for everything out there- he may not have been able to manage too many jumps in the second half. IMO, I felt that he was done a great disservice in the SP. He should have won that by a larger margin.

I do hope he returns to the games in Russia.

That's all about money. USA didn't win Olympics since Boitano and people lose their interest to the sport. The shows are not as well visited, as they were before, so USA just need this Gold Medal and everybody knows it. And Evgeni, everybody knows, that you are the greates and was it also tonight, Also Lysacek and Sale and all this stuff knows it...

it's true-evgeny's '***-circles'[tm david wilson/johnny weir] were extremely manly and masculine: and he 'doubled' them!
i'm really kidding-i'm impressed w/ evgeny-just didn't like his choreo. johnny was 'the johnny back in johnny'-loved it! go do your quad and a few little tweaks-then:world champion johnny weir!

I agree Plushy was let down by his program construction. Someone should tell Mishin the LP is longer than 3:30. Plushy spent the last minute - almost 25% of his program killing time.

Do I think Evan deserved to win? Yes. If Plush wanted to win, he knew Evan's PCS would be higher than his (oh wait-they weren't! How'd that happen?), not to mention FW and spins. He knew he needed to thump Evan on the TES thanks to the jumps.

Do I like it? No. I do not like Evan's skating at all.

I think the CoP is a failure because Brian Boitano's '88 performance would have beat Evan's last night. Is that what we want? Skating to not really progress in 12 years? It did progress, then the programs became too focused on the quads & some judges started handing it to the best jumper. So, instead of not handing it to the guy who just did quads, we went the other way, practically penalizing the guy who does a quad because, really, Plush is right: you can't do a bunch of Transitions to get into a quad, it has to be lots of crossovers. Daisuke goes for the quad, doesn't get a clean take-off and then falls and underrotates and gets the double whammy of the downgrade + the fall mark. I don't agree with that. You shouldn't get two penalties for one element. I think, if they fall, they get a mark as a fall. Or maybe you should only get credit for the jumps you do. I dunno. To me, that quad was the difference b/w Daisuke and Evan. Also, I notice Dasiuke was downgraded on his 3-3 but Evan's was no cleaner. I don't like that. I can't wait to see the programs online. I had no slow mo replay for the SP or the LP and I still contend that Evan cheated the combo in the SP and had a couple underrotated in the LP. Makes me wonder what will happen with Mao.

Johnny Weir was lambasted. I'll put it out there: as a person, I am no fan of Johnny Weir. But that has to be put aside and only what happens ion the ice judged. That guy had two solid programs. The LP was very strong. I think the judges hate his flamboyancy on and off the ice and so they were hard on him.

people who understand cop far better than me swear johnny's scores were fair-but i just really wonder if some of the judges penalized johnny for what he said re: joe inman, but i really hope not.
