DSC Champions Revue - Alissa Czisny

i hope she didn't change it to her competition dress, the blue one is way better. i really really hope that was just an off day...it almost looks like she let her old technique come back for a minute. or maybe she's still injured? either way i still love her and shes still my favorite skater. go alissa!

I only watched the first 1/3 or so...oh dear. I really, really hope that there isn't a lingering injury or self doubt going on. This is really not a the kind of send off skate one would hope for. But, here's wishing Alissa and all the skaters the very, very best at nationals.

I agree, Math. She needs music with a bit more zip. Much as I love and trust Jason and Yuka, they should have found something with some more electrical power to it.

The emptiness of Czisny's FS is suddenly apparent in the above video. I didn't pay much attention to it before, but there really is not much going on there. Too late to add content, but somehow if she hits I don't think it will prevent her from scoring big.

As for the performance, I would not worry about it. It's only a show. More troubling, perhaps, is Czisny's track record of defending titles.

I said this on another forum but I don't think this is the solution. I don't think it's her style to be powerful or energetic and having her skate to such music would be a mismatch IMHO. Light, fluffy pieces suit her better. She just needs more choreo content between the jumps, that's all...

The concept of the dress, I dont mind at all. I was more concerned with the performance. I hope she is fully healed from her injury. Im praying it was just nerves & being cautious with her injury area. Hopefully thats out of her system now, so she can go be amazing at Nationals :agree:

:party2: Go Alissa, Mirai & Caroline!!! :party2::points: (Im sure this is what my boyfriend thinks I look like when those 3 get on the ice :rolleye: LOL)

The jumps are everything. In this performance she spends the whole four minutes falling on one jump then proceeding with gloom, trepidation and dread to the next.

When she hits the majority of her jumps, she can put in her actual choreography -- more steps, turns and flourishes, and she even gets to waltz a little in the middle section.

i don't know if i would say electrical power, but something along the lines of her "winter into spring" from last year or "dr. zhivago". those are my two favorite programs of hers. they have a lot of life and are still very graceful pieces of music. she skated to those best.

The hell with Czisny did you guys see that awesome short that Abbott did? He nailed quad-triple combo. A short like that will keep him on the heels of Chan at worlds.

oh, yes that was more than awesome. I do really hope his quad is finally back because that one was a beauty

Abbot was super impressive - I really and truly hope he nails nationals. I've said it before, but here it goes again....his programs this year just are amazing, and to see him put two great programs out there at nationals would be incredible and inspiring, and would make wondering about Worlds oh so exicting!

(I still want Czisny to skate well. with some skaters it is, for me, particularly heartbreaking when they have a bad skate)

Again, regardless of the quality of skate, can't put much stock in a show performance. JMO

Agreed. Also, one good/bad performance at a competition doesn't always carry over to the next event but, whatever I want Czisny to skate a strong performance regardless.

IMO, Valse Triste is not a good choice for Czisny. She is a slow skater, and this piece only underlines how slow she really is. Worse, the opening bars are so slow that it almost invites Alissa to stalk her opening jumps, unfortunate since she is not the most confident skater in the first place. If she doesn't land the first couple of jumps cleanly, then there goes the performance.

^ That is perfectly stated. For the first two jumping passes Alissa looks like she is going to her own funeral, complete with funeral dirge grinding away in the background.
