2014 Olympics Pairs Short Program

I honestly think it is more likely S&K catch S&S than S&S catch V&T. If S&S have a clean long for 2 straight competitions I will be amazed given their history. And even they did, I think V&T could afford 2 mistakes. The had 2 at the GPF and barely lost but GPF wasnt in Russia. Meanwhile if S&S have 2 or 3 mistakes (almost expected of them in a LP) S&K might catch them with a clean skate (which they usually do) and home ice scoring.

It isn't a runaway. Good. :) I'm trying hard to like V/T. I just don't like him and I think he looks silly in the short, but he did say something a few months ago that helped ease my dislike of him. Unfortunately, I can't remember what it was. :p Maybe something about Jason Brown or Denney and Coughlin? Or something entirely different. Anyway, I'm still rooting for S/S but I don't hate Trankov as much as I did, so if they do win, I'll be ok with that. :)

That left no room for "judging controversy" talk. The Russians were spectacular.

But so were Savchenko/Szolkowy. Who have better basics. And the quality of most of their elements, save for the twist and possibly the throw, were superior.

Take the 3toes for example. Shorter entry, with preceding transitions, executed much closer together.

There is no way V/T were 4.50 points better.

No it's 4 and a half points... isn't it?

4.53 to be exact

Yeah, I meant MORE THAN 4 points (post edited)....still it's not a huge lead when you consider that a SBS 3T is 4.1 points. If V/T mess up on their jumps, who knows.

I think you're probably thinking of Trankov tweeting congrats to Denny and Coughlin when they won bronze at Cup of Russia.

B/L - Russia has its truck driving men too. That program is just so by-the-numbers to me. I'd put them behind C/S, but I'm not a judge.

I don't think so. With the scores as close as they are, I think if V/T have mistakes and S/S have none, S/S will get the win. S/S don't have any pressure. I think (hope) they'll throw it down in the long and let the chips fall where they may. I have to say, though, good on V/T for holding up under the pressure, so far. The pressure on them must be insane.

Agree. I also don't think there is any chance of S/K catching S/S unless S/S have a TOTAL meltdown. It would take more than their simply not being 'clean'

That isnt likely at all. S&S have about 2 clean long programs in their whole career. Then even if they do (already super super unlikely) V&T would have to skate their Europeans LP to lose and it is incredibly unlikely they will skate that poorly again. If they even skate their GPF LP, which for them was very bad, they would still probably win given the home ice factor and the bigger SP gap than the GPF.
