Maybe I'll reconsider. I tried to get into posting during this quad but couldn't because of the constant crashing.
Sotnikova is not a quality jumper. All she has is power. Gracie, Kim, Costner, and even Polina Edmunds have greater jumping technique.Because Asada had no triple lutz and no 3/3. Made a mistake, and her quality on some of her jumps is not great.
On the other hand. Sotnikova is an incredible jumper. In her own freaking right and is a better spinner then Kim. Also the new rules which said no Yu-na can't do three double axels, hurt her. Sotnikova was rewarded for having all 5 triples.
And I think Kim not having a 3loop was always a deficiency.
""It's sad that I just presumed Sotnikova was going to get a boost (in points) because this was in Russia," former U.S. Olympic figure skating coach Audrey Weisiger said in a phone interview. "Isn't it sad that I automatically thought that? Not one person in skating I've talked to said that's the way it should have gone."
"I was surprised with the result," Joseph Inman, a top international judge who was on the women's panel at the 2002 Olympics, said in a telephone interview."
YUP. We automatically assumed, too. RUSSIAN STYLE. To be honest, Russian people have showed such poor sportsmanship during this entire Olympics game that I've lost so much respect for them. Not just figure skating, but the way that the games were so poorly set up (and them even messing up the opening ceremony...), and how there were so many injuries occurring, I now have a really negative view of them. I think Olympics is not just about winning gold medals, but it is also about fair competition and showing sportsmanship. None of them have been courteous or genuine in any way. I will only remember Putin's arrogant face and Russian people screaming RUSSIA RUSSIA and jeering at other non-Russian athletes. Pathetic and very embarrassing.
It was nice to see Carolina be the bigger person at the end and go to Adelina and congratulate her on her win backstage. Carolina is loved by all in the skating world, but apparently not by Russians and certainly no by certain judges. On the other hand, it was sad to see Yu Na be a terrible sportswoman and not hug or kiss Carolina on her way to the podium- you could see Carolina’s disappointment. Carolina is and will always be my favorite athlete of all time.
It was exciting because all of her jumps. I like that, and she's a good spiner. And yes, ballet requires tecnique but people go to the theater to see it as an art form, while figure skating is counted as a sport. Of course artistry is important but it is called a sport for a reason. Anyway, it's just my taste is different from you. Nothing serious.By you saying that Adelina had the best performance because it was "really exciting" just shows the extent to such an UNTECHNICAL judgment if based on that criteria.
And please, ballet itself requires technique.
Yes Mao is going to Worlds
Yuna wasn't robbed. She lost mostly on TES points. Had she done a triple loop (which would have enabled her to do 2A-3T, another money jump combo for her during 2007-2010 quad) and the biellman spin (Lv4 layback), she'd have won in spite of the many roadblocks she encountered here in Sochi. I'm sad for her, but frankly this sport has moved on and evolved since Vancouver and she should have caught the trend and followed it.
Her federation was pretty stupid, too. They should have given her rest from competitions during the 2010-2012 seasons. She could have used that break wisely by working on her deficiencies (extensions, triple loop, more spin variations, etc) and then make a comeback for 2011-2012 season full-time. Doing so would have enabled her to create programs that catered to judges' preference and she also could have worked with other choreographers who would have given her a fresh look.
You cannot deny that team Yuna had a few miscalculations on the projection of how Sochi games were going to unfold, and she also had virtually no political clouts going into the event with Korean coaches. If I were her, I'd have hired foreign coaching team like in Vancouver.
In the end, she just made the comeback decision too late which resulted in the late preparation and not enough time to work on her needs. She is still a champion from 4 yrs ago and made impressive and valiant efforts to defend the title, but I do think she needed more than what she came with to Sochi.
I am literally done with figure skating. Yes Adelina won technically but Yuna should've been head and shoulders above her on the PCS but she wasn't. If you try to argue that Adelina had better skating skills, transitions, choreography, interpretation, and performance & execution I don't even know what to say. The scores were so inflated, because according to her score, she had the best performance of any lady this quad. And there is no sensible argument you could make for that. She did not have the best performance of any lady this quad. This score also says that this performance was around the level of Yuna's Gershwin performance in VancouverI sure hope this kind of overscoring isn't going to start happening everywhere. I'm not trying to take away from Adelina's performance. She was good, but I don't believe she was the best and I don't believe that score reflected her performance.
It was exciting because she was on her home turf, and was a dark horse competitor. Her score was over 5 points ahead of Yuna. Sorry, but that is just obscene. Nothing serious.
No offense, but the Russians could have said the same in 2002, and if we want to be honest did Michelle Kwan really deserve to defeat Slutskaya's technical clinic in that SP, especially with judges giving her scores as low as 5.6 for technical merit?
You people were accusing the US of colluding with Russian for Team and Dance Gold Medals and now you're quoting Joe Inman who says he doesn't care if a Lutz is a Flutz or not among other idiotic things and using it as proof of cheating? Give me a break, please.
Adelina got minus GOE for her small error on that combination. It was a slight error that shouldn't affect PCS.
Do I think that Adelina maybe got overscored on PCS yes. But do I think she did a lot more technically than Kostner and Yu-na did. Yes.
Okay, now i am a happy camper. Mao can end her career on a super high note!
