2014 Olympics Ladies Free Skate

I denounces the result of Sochi ladies figure skating as a fraud, and propose disciplinary sanction on those judges by ISU and a permanent ban of Russia for hosting winter Olympics.

I'm curious as to how Scott and Sandra will call this. I hope they don't become cowards. Dick Button, Robin Cousins, Kurt Browning and Katarina Witt and Michelle Kwan and Todd Eldredge are enraged. And I'm sure Frank Carroll is firing off somewhere and also John Nicks. Everyone needs to join hands and stop this insanity. Russia as a country is so backwards. It's an outrage not to mention all the persecution of gays and journalists who speak the truth.

Adelina Sotnikova

2013 World Championship -Finishes 9th with a score of 175.98
2013 GPF - Finishes 5th with a score of 173.30

2014 SOCHI Olympics - Finishes 1(???)st with 224.59

Her score jumped over 51.29 points in last 2 months. BRAVO Russia.

...wow. Put it that way, it's pretty, um, impressive.

The judging, because of the size of the gap between the scores, is likely to be analyzed and criticized for years to come. In fact, American Ashley Wagner wasted no time, saying "people need to be accountable."
"This sport needs fans and needs people who want to watch it," Wagner, who finished seventh, said. "People do not want to watch a sport where they see someone skate lights out and they can't depend on that person to be the one who pulls through."

Despite the questionable judging:

This lady's competition was the best I have seen in a long time. So many suprises, so many good programs, so much excitement!

Mao: 8 Triple-Program! You did it!
Carolina: Two clean programs back to back, you should be proud!

Yup
I'd be really curious which scores were from Balkov & the wife of Russian FS federation

I needed sometime to pick up my jaw from the floor, lol! Sotnikova Olympic Champion belongs to pigs fly category. Woa, at the beginning of the season I d really laugh about it. It is not her fault whatever judges were doing, so I ll say congrats to her, I almost laugh they didnt pick her for Team and all eyes were on Julia all this time. It looks like they pissed her off, sort of like " if you dont want me for team medal, I ll get one on my own", so kudos for skating so good both days. Maybe thats why Tarasova was silent and dropped talking about Kovtun.
Mao's pcs is my bitter taste of the event, and thats why I dont even try to get deeper to CoP.
I think Yuna second time Oly Champion and Sotnikova on the podium would have been enough of a great story. I get she lost in TES but I found Yuna inspiring and I bow down to her nerves of steel, best ladies competitor since Kwan.
I m thrilled for Carolina and I cried with Mao, these two ladies deserve the platinum of all platinums medal.
I dont like this overscoring for Julia when her program was flat and nothing close to Euros, her age showed ..as I dont like the same overscoring for Gold, I need to check protocols I guess but I dont know how Gold took more points than team event FS with a fall this time.
Nevermind the inflation, in order to get their scores to the podium , they needed to skate well first so I m totally surprised all Russians but basarova/larionov and Julia in individuals delivered in these olys, with all the pressure and the crazy audience. I/K skating clean was jaw dropping for me.

In the Kiss&Cry she kind of tried to hide it but you could see she was disappointed and not happy. On the podium, she had this very clearly forced and fake smile. As in only her mouth smiled and not the rest of her face and her eyes were telling a different story.

I've taken a course in 'observation and diagnosis' as part of a psychology degree. ;)

Well, I think if Yuna lost fair and squared 'cause she screwed up, she would be alright. But Yuna skated a clean, mature, elegant program. If Carolina Kostner had a triple-triple, I would say Carolina deserved to be have won. And I am sure Yuna would be okay with that - but she lost over Adelina, who literally won because of her massive boost in PCs. I don't know what to think....I would be bummed...

I sincerely hope that everyone in the FS community calls out this farce. May Frank Carroll fire off all he wants. The Russian Skating Federation should not be allowed to slink away with this.

See also my analysis for the PCS of Asada, Sotnikova and Lipnistkaja during this season :):)

I would love to see it but there are just so many pages to go through... lol...

Sigh. I am so shocked about Yuna being robbed of her gold medal that I could barely work all afternoon.

OK this is what I thought. I would have put 1) Kim 2) Kostner 3) Sotnikova. Happy to see many people and many commentors felt the same. But like I said in the other thread, this is a subjective sport and that's why I enjoy it much more than others. We can argue about the results ( I think they were horrible and that they overscored Adelina way too much), but at the end of the day it's part f the sport.

Yuna Kim. I can't express how awesome I think she was. I'm a huge fan so I might be a little biased ( I admit that lol) but I also understand the judging system and I do think she really deserved the gold. But she leaves in such a beautiful way and she leaves such an amazing legacy I think it doesn't matter. I think deep down she knew she would't win. You could tell by her face. But she's the definition of grace, elegance, respect for your collegues, class, ambition, motivation, and the most important, hard work. She's a great woman, a great competitor and an amazing skater. In my mind the best. She's an inspiration to many and I thank her for that.:bow:

Carolina: I am so happy she finally got her medal. She trully deserved it. Another woman who shows us where hard work and perseverance can get you.

Adelina: She skated an amazing program and deserved a medal. Maybe not the gold medal but still lol. She skated with so much passion and I enjoyed her performance. I look forwads to seeing her in the future and will be rooting for her. I'll try not to think of her as the one who stole Yuna's medal lol. It was the judges' mistake lol. I'll try to remember that.

American ladies: I don't really enjoy Gold's skating as much, but I think she can improve so much and win everything in the future. Wagner I just love her attitude. She skated with passion today and she really wanted to win. So kudos to her. I think she showed people why she earned her spot ( I would have prefered Mirai but oh well).

Julia: my heart hurt for her. I hated her after the team event lol. But she has a lot of time to improve and she's someone to watch for the next few years. I'll be rooting for her too. The amount of pressure she must have had is sad. She's just a little girl.

Mao: She made the world proud today. She was the definition of a champion and the definition or elegance, hard work and perseverance too. She showed us all how much determination she has. Her beautiful performance is the end of a beautiful career and it's the best olympic moment for me. Nobody will ever top that!:clap:

So one thing is clear: In Figure Skating, Putin beats Kim's technique.
You don't have to quote me just to make fun of my lines. I never say Kim is not great, it's just her performance this year are not my taste doesn't mean I am Russian uber or anything. i have never heard of these Russian girls before this Olympic. So what's wrong about liking their performances better than Kim's? It's my taste and preference, it means no harm. As if I do anything to the scoring, it would be the ice dance, VM deserve a second gold.:p

@JamieSale4m
Ok I'm not a judge but I just watched the #womansfigureskating again + I STRONGLY disagree w results like MANY others. #ISU now what?

Could someone in Germany upload on Youtube the video of the Ladies FS that is available on the ARD mixed zone website? I would love to listen to the commentary!! :biggrin:Thanks
