2014 Olympics Ladies Free Skate

Apparently people are attacking Adelina on Facebook/Twitter b/c she won.

I seriously question the sanity of some of these people. She did what she was supposed to do...she didn't judge the event, so why attack her? Some people need to remember this is only a sport and that their life doesn't depend on the outcome. They're coming at her like she strangled their puppy or pushed their grandma down a hill.

What is wrong with people? Are people really that upset? Upset enough to resort to cyber-bullying a 17 year old kid who had no say so in what scores she received? I guess this is one of the many benefits of not being over-emotionally invested in figure skating.

My guess is, after Arakawa in Turin followed by Kim in Vancouver, they really hated to see an Asian girl on top of the podium in Sochi yet again. Disgusting racism.

I have a question for all of you at GS forum. Do you guys think Yuna could have won solely based on the difference of her PCS points if she was scored a few points higher on PCS compared to Adelina? I know her TES score is a foregone conclusion since there was just no way for her to catch Adelina who didn't make any major mistakes other than the tiny glitch on her three-jump-combo landing. But what about PCS points? I think judges could have scored a couple higher points for Yuna on PCS since she herself went clean as well. In the end, though, I don't think the placement would have changed even with the PCS difference. Also, had Yuna defended the title by receiving higher marks on PCS only when her TES was significantly lower than Adelina's, I predict people would have cried "outrageous overscoring on Yuna" and that kind of thing. :scowl:

Do you guys think Yuna could have won solely based on the difference of her PCS points if she was scored a few points higher on PCS compared to Adelina?(your question suggest you have no idea of Adelina's real score. Adelina should have earned in short 66-67which means she had 7-8 ghost points) I know her TES score is a foregone conclusion (you mean Russian TES?) since there was just no way for her to catch Adelina who didn't make any major mistakes other than the tiny glitch on her three-jump-combo landing. (You just show that you have no idea of figure skating) But what about PCS points? I think judges could have scored a couple higher points for Yuna on PCS since she herself went clean as well (again no clue of PCS). In the end, though, I don't think the placement would have changed even with the PCS difference (again I won't fault you for your opinion or favor, but I don't believe "Russian figure" if there is such a thing on earth)Also, had Yuna defended the title by receiving higher marks on PCS only when her TES was significantly lower than Adelina's, I predict people would have cried "outrageous overscoring on Yuna" and that kind of thing.

I will give you a better idea, since you seem to have no clue of reality: Adelina's total score should have amounted to around 207-208 (67 +141) if judged correctly.

I'd have had it like this:
1. Yuna
2. Carolina
3. Adelina
4. Mao
5. Yulia
6. Ashley
7. Gracie
8. Akiko
9. Kanako
10. Polina

*disclaimer* towards the end, I got a crushing eyestrain headache, so I may change my opinion after I watch it on the kind and gentle big tv tonight :)

I don't get it either. I think you critique the system without casting hate on the skater!

I actually like Adelina and her skating tons. I didn't agree with how they scored her (in the SP; still haven't seen the FS), but she shouldn't be blame/chastised for doing her job.

I denounces the result of Sochi ladies figure skating as a fraud, and propose disciplinary sanction on those judges by ISU and a permanent ban of Russia for hosting winter Olympics.

Agree! With one more stipulation, a ban on Russian judges and technical callers and technical specialist for life

Adelina was also overscored in the the TES.

She got more goe for her jumps than Carolina, Yuna and Gracie(girls with better jumps than Adelina). She also got more GOE for her steps the Mao Asada.

Also, the judges did not mark her flutz. The 3T of the 3Lz+3T was UR. Herstep out on that 3-jump combo should get -2(she gost mostly -1). Her 2A+3T had a bad back posture and awkward and lean landing. That 2A+3T should recieve, at most, +1. Most of the judges gave it +2 and +3.

So disgusted. I despise the use of social media to send hate to others. They skated their best, the results were not up to them. It's like Ashley part 2. Just admire their skill and hard work and if you want to tweet them, say only something nice. Jeez.

^^^All of that = skating well in front of a home crowd at the Olympics.

Here's a question: what if it had been Julia who had the two lights-out performances and won gold? Would the reaction be better? Just as bad? Worse?

So many threads that I posted this in the Judges' Conspiracy thread by mistake. So I am re-posting.

Definitely did not see Adelina hitting it out of the ballpark and winning the Gold Medal. I loved her FS and thought
she deserved first place. After being cast aside by her Federation like an ugly stepchild in favor of Julia,
how thrilling and sweet this win must be for her.

Yuna blew me away with her SP. I thought she skated with passion and she told a story
with her skating, very moving. Her FS not so much even though she skated well.
To come to Sochi as Olympic Champion and win Silver is a rare accomplishment.
She is a true talent and champion.

Caro was magnificent in the SP and FS. Her SP and FS for me is like watching art on ice.
I am so happy that she won the Bronze. Super ending to a long career with lots of ups and downs.
I will miss the Goddess on Ice!

Congratulations Ladies well done.

Highlights for me:

Mao's FS, WOW!!!!

Ashley's FS

Mae Berniece FS

Gracie's FS

Akiko's FS

I thought it was a great competition with a lot of beautiful skating! I am happy!

Wonderful competition!!! Would have loved for Carolina to take the gold, but in the end I'm so happy for her, and you could really see that she was moved and more than satisfied! Great that she could finally be perfectly clean, and at the Olympics! I guess noone was expecting that after this season, glad she proved everyone wrong!
Congrats to all the medalists too, Yuna was perfect and Adelina, not my favourite, but she really gave it all! And Mao was special too!

Does anyone know when will the gala be (in Sochi time)?

Adelina's component scores should have been lower by at least a few points. Her GOE's should have been slightly lower. And Yuna's GOE's should have been significantly higher. Again, doing MORE tripple's does not mean better technical performance. The OLD 6.0 system assessed technical merit based on number of jumps. The entire point of the ISU system is to judge GRADE OF EXECUTION. Yuna Kim demonstrated a higher level of execution of her triple jumps than any other lady in that competition, period. THAT is why she's a champion. People are trying to say she's this "artist" all of a sudden. But she has always been icy and removed. It is her incredibly majestic and reliable triples that stand above the other ladies. She has incredibly clean landings, perfect textbook posture, consistent speed, and unimpeachable rotations.

Pathetic. The judging was just downright pathetic. Yu-Na skated magnificently and perfectly, every element was beautiful and the overall composition was stupendous. Caro delivered a lively and perfectly choreographed program with a sense of artistry that is unparalleled in the sport today. And Mao's clean performance just confirms her as one of the greats of the sport today. She landed all the triples including the axel and although her toe may have been underrotated (I dont agree with the UR actually), she was magnificent. Adelina, on the other hand, was overscored like crazy and should have finished fourth in the FS, behind the three I mentioned. Her skating skills, choreography, and interpretation were obviously worse than all three, and I cannot comprehend how she got higher PCS than Mao and Caro.
Mr Detailed Scoring for the FS(how I would have scored):
1. Mao
1. 3A 8.50+0.43=8.93 (maybe a little UR, but not 1/4)
2. 3F+3Lo 10.40+0.00=10.40 (also debatable, but I dont think the Lo was 1/4 revolution UR)
3. 3Lz e 6.00-0.40=5.60
4. CCoSp4 3.50+0.50=4.00
5. FCSp4 3.20+0.50=3.70
6. 2A+3T* 8.14+1.00=9.14 (I dont think the 3T was UR at all, and the combo was well executed.)
7. 3S* 4.62+0.50=5.12
