I'd argue that if Julia was clean she would've been the one standing on the top of that Podium with inflated marks, The mass audiences probably would've been fine with that too, After her fall though Sotnikova the forgotten Russian actually nailed her SP
and was made
plan B, Much like with Ice dance when B\S failed to crack 70 in the SD, I\K were there to pick up the pieces, And get a score of 110 in the FD which they have done great many times before just to get 102-103,
S\K in pairs were probably kept like that as well, In case V\T would've had another meltdown a-la GPF or Europeans which would be unacceptable for a win, But that one turned out ok, I assume had a male skater competed he would've gotten a boost too,
Kovtun could've landed his 5 Quads thus claiming the victory,
Because it's all about who had more or harder jumps right ? (Sotnikova-Kim reference daahh!!) And seeing Plushenko's marks at the team event he would've been fine for the podium.
I gotta hand it to the Russians, They were definitely prepared, Very calculated here and in the last few months too, Although not fullproof it does give good odds, Luckily they also for the most part competed very well, Which makes me happy cause i like the athletes, And the scores were easy to make sense of up until this very last event, Which apparently for some people, Also makes sense sadly.
If this is not the case then according to Lipnitskaya's scores with her falls, Underroration and bad landing, She would've been at around 74 for the SP, And around 144-149 for the FS, So yes, They would've been first and second, But i think Russia was probably aware that that wouldn't stick, Can only go with one, But then again, I thought they would never go as far as doing some of the thing they DID do here at the Olympics
