2014 Worlds - Ladies Short Program

Mao was exquisite. I loved her dress. Can I steal it? I also enjoyed Gracie's short despite the minor mistakes.

I thought Yulia's program was wonderful. I wasn't really worried because she's already proved she has no trouble bouncing back from a mistake, but I still cheered when she landed the triple flip. I agree that her jumps were better here. While making the effort to jump up might be "better" I actually enjoy Yulia's 2A; the way it looks so effortless and smooth.

I think Carroll has done a lot for her confidence and consistency. But her jump quality has suffered. Her 3Lz-3T and 2A-3T were better when she trained with Ouriashev. And that thing she called a 3Lo in her SP should barely count as a jump, because it barely left the ice.[/QUOTE]

I agree, Frank Carroll in my opinion is better at developing artistry and consistency but weak on athleticism. Just look at his biggest star skater in the past Michelle Kwan. Love her for the presentation and grace but she never really improved her technical skills.

I got immediately attacked with all kinds of nasty, vulgar insults thrown at me.
Did they call you an elephant, a whale? You are the example of why Yuna fans are the worst whining hypocrites ever. When people called your "hippo" as low insult, which is what it is, you call it "vulgar insults throw at me." So calling your insult as insult means insulting you. Yeah. While your calling Adelina "hippo" you called "off-topic" remark. I know, know. The word "insult" is not applied to Yuna fans. She is her majesty, her fans don't insult anyone, they give off-topic remarks. Different lexics and standards for her majesty followes. :yay:
I just really can't stop . Yuna fans contribute more than anyone to make Yuna look like sore loser. It's unbelievable how someboy can be so slow not to get it.

She and Mao both deserve high PCS. I'd have Mao a lot closer to Caro and a lot further from Julia if I were judging but I do think skate order had a lot to do with that.

I agree with you. Caro has better speed and flow and basics over Mao, but I would have scored Mao a bit more on the P/E. I do think Caro does better on PCS but it will be at most 1 point higher. Yulia's PCS was overscored. She should not be higher than Akiko. I will have akiko at about 34.5 and Yulia no more than 32.

Not according to the majority of people who were there and wrote about their impressions (though none of them denied the better SS and/or complained about Caros PCS being higher). But Mao got bashed for being "way too slow" for so long, I just have to point that out: Mao isn't slow at all anymore. Her speed is equal to Caro.

Adelina already have succesful 4-toe on practices. I wonder what is her ratio of success/fail attempts though.
I think she'll be doing it in 2 years in major compettions and not just in practice. I can't wait! After being olympic champion Adelina will be looking to raise the bar in the future. She will be looking to raise the bar in part because of the great competition she is now facing from her compatriots. So many good Russian girls for the forseeable future.

Two of the most famous, unintelligible bots confirming my suspicion? So I take it that Adelina indeed looks like a hippo when she jumps? (again, I haven't seen a hippo jump)

I wouldn't go so far as to say equal. I do think that Mao's power here was better than I've ever seen before and she was honestly a little lowballed in PCS for me, I would have had Mao higher in IN and PE, equal in CH and a bit lower in TR and SS than Caro. But I do think her speed doesn't quite equal Carolina's.

This short event was amazing! That being said I think the following skaters were screwed:

1. Mao Asada- She skated flawlessly, I think the judges were on the right track, but she deserved higher PCS and GOE on her steps; they gain speed to reflect the music, I think that's incredible.

2. Akiko Suzuki- What the ****?!!! Lower PCS than Lipnitskaya??? No, just no.

3. Kaetlyn Osmond- Lower PCS than Gracie and Julia and equal in PCS to Anna? With those transitions and performance skills I don't agree.

4. Kanako Murakami- The judges need to leave her alone, the 3T may have been slightly UR if you're going to be harsh but her 3F was totally fine. Goodbye reputation.

She was never actually slow to begin with. She wasn't top speed but she's always had good speed. I wouldn't say that her speed matches Caro's though.

Well I would, only difference is that Mao doesn't need as many crossovers as Carolina to gain it

people need to stop saying this. mirai came tenth at 4ccs this year in a field of olympic rejects

That's with hindsight. The World Team decision was made before 4CCs. And it's not surprising she didn't do well after the disappointment of being left off both the Olympic and World teams. Polina, by the way, currently sits in 12th place at Worlds.

Her technical skills were already among the best. She didn't have a consistent 3-3, but probably wouldn't have with anyone in her era.

Late to comment, but congratulation to all the skaters for their performances and looking forward to the FP tomorrow. Hope it will be as epic as the men's turned out to be.
Regarding Mao's speed, I don't think it's not so much speed that Mao lacks in comparison to Carolina but powerful stroking. Carolina and actually Akiko as well have very powerful stroking that uses deep edges, and Mao, maybe because her physique allows her to skate with the most perfect glide in the business, didn't (need to) engage her edges as Carolina and Akiko do when she was skating. But I would also agree that Mao is now a far more powerful skater now than ever before, and I really hope that Mao will consider staying without taking a break.

I think Mao has improved even more after Sochi, and she is so nearly the perfect skater now, that if she can just stay on and keep on improving her use of edges just that little bit more without getting injured, she can truly become the most perfect skater in the history of figure skating.
