Yuzuru Hanyu: 2013-14 Season

^Yuzu and Mao are both earning a lot if we just look at the digits, unfortunately the fact is that they need to share their earnings with the JSF. Yuzu is still having a room for development in the advertising market as he did not involve too much before Sochi. But I don't think he'll do the same amount like Mao? Such as the photo collection... Heard Yuzu can get a lot of money if he poses for and publishes a photo collection, but it doesn't look like something that he'll do. Btw, Mao the lovely queen seems to have potential to maintain her earning even she gets retired in the future.

how much he must share his earning with JSF, isn't it a goverment agency?
actually, his 2014 callender is always out of stock after Sochi, it's original price is about 2000 yen, but the merchant increased the price to about 9000 yen =))

Share a video I preferred in this World competition. I like to see the interactions between skaters that can read their personality more natural.

Scene summary:

After competition, before the ceremony, Machida walked to Yuzu and congratulated him for victory. They made a big hug.

Yuzu: It was slightly close, very slightly close. But let’s go to podium together. (Then he made a jump posture. haha he is really a jump lover!)

Machida: Although I’m regrettable for the result, but thank you anyway.

Yuzu: Well, you have two great programs. I didn’t clean my SP.

Machida: But this is a great competition, right? (At the moment he shook hands with Yuzu’s nutritionist Kurihara Hidefumi from Ajinomoto)

Yuzu: Yes, I enjoyed it. Thank you.

Then Machida shook hands with Orser. Kurihara praised them “ such a wonderful sportsmanship.”

I think at that time she is less famous than him so his income is more than her this year.

Russian commentators love to mention that Mao is an idol in Japan and has a cult status(maybe a fellow from glorious Japan will correct this statement), comparing Mao's current popularity with Yuzuru's(which, according to them, is much less than hers).

He had a calendar? I´m a bad fan

Well Yuzuru has les say more competition in the marketable skater for Japan, after all even when he won againts Daisuke, Dai is still very popular.

Second earnings depend in how much the athlete wants to play the game. If you sing an sponsor deal you need to fullfill special events, CM, inteviews, some sponsors like that their sportmen keeps talking about them (see Shizuka Arakawa twitter/ Yamaha is everywhere) etc. Some sportmen don´t like it and prefer just go with normal earnings, this is good specially if Yuzuru want to concentrate inbeing a sportmen instead of being a brand (See Sebastian Vettel vs Lewis Hamilton)

Yuzuru will need to get an agent. Someone that looks after him. Seems he doesn´t have a twitter account I will recomend to get a official webpage.

EDIT

Video of practice for Nagoya festival... he is wearing all his medals haha

Thanks to all those who posted links to articles and videos and translations!

Re the Nagoya festival practice video, I am glad to see Kanako looking so lovely and radiant after a tough season for her. LOL at Yuzuru and Akiko "video bombing" behind Kanako as she was being interviewed (4:51). Re Yuzuru, at YouTube, I couldn't see the medals, only the ribbons! The camera should have panned out more.

IMO, Yuzu is still a young skater who has not yet developed a giant concrete fan base though he got the 3 big champs. Mao and Dai have built up an extremely strong die-hard fan base so their commercial values are high like the peak.

Heard that Yuzu's agent is IMG, a very famous celebrities agency.

I actually have my own little collection, including several yellow bears, half of it standing right across the room  we went to Disney World about 8 years back and I kinda went batshit-nostalgia-crazy as soon as I entered any gift shop (now I'm closer to 30 than 20 and everybody thinks I lost my mind because I'm still in love with my stuffed animals  but who cares, right?! whatever keeps you young at heart)

Yeeey...I found my TWO Winnie the Pooh toys from when I was a little child :P And you're right...the youth is in someone's soul and heart rather than in his/her age :)

I heard Yuzu hasn't signed any agency yet.But some people guess that would be IMG in the future.Anyway, I'm not sure:)

I'm not sure, but read some people said it's 50%. Not a surprise, there are indeed some government sports organizations in the world doing this to have reward for their investment.

Rumours everywhere:laugh:

It's always something like a coin has 2 sides. He can leave the mess to the manager if he signs an agency but needs to share his income with them. Who knows how much will the agency charge:think: Perhaps mom should be able to deal with these things?

The good thing is Yuzu doesn't care much about money:laugh:But I agree he really needs a manager to help him with the mess. Afte all, he's really famous in Japan now and things could be out of control if not careful.

Hello. First post!

I thought I'd share fan reports from Nagoya Figure Skating Festival tonight (picked up from twitter)

Kihara/Hanyu pair did a successful throw jump. (Hanyu threw, Kihara jumped)
Hanyu did an impersonation of the beginning of Machida's East of Eden.
Hanyu skated to PW in his White Legend costume.

I hope they get broadcasted :)

Great first post mikaboo! Apparently I am not the only one intrigued by this throw jump by Kihara/Hanyu. If Yuzuru did the throwing that means he took the "guy" part and Kihara (Ryuichi I presume) who did the jumping was the "girl" ??!! Can't wait to see the video!

IMG figure skating talent http://img.com/services/talent-representation/figure-skating.aspx
Borser, Javier Fernandez, Meryl Davis and Charlie White, Jeffrey Buttle. No Yuzuru.

True that he is still young, but I have read that the year of the Olympics is the more important for a gold medalist (Shawn Johnson played her cards nicely and won even more that Nastia) so... I guess it will all depend on what Yuzuru and his parents want (he is still a minor) and what are the contracts that he already have (JOC, ANA, Ajimoto) say he can do.

Thanks for the info!

Things will get complicated as his popularity is rocketing... but I believe his parents (and himself) will take good care of it. And he's still under 20, so no commercials about automobile and alcohol
