Yuzuru Hanyu: 2013-14 Season

When I joined this fan fest, I was thinking it would be awesome being friends with you guys because we all have the same interest. :) It's nice to join the fandom with sweet people as you guys. These skaters might never know us, but we will have all the chances to share the fun here, won't us?

Absolutely right!!! Most people around me think that I'm crazy for fangirling so much over Yuzuru Hanyu, pointing out that fangirling over a person so far away from me (both in terms of proximity and popularity) is futile...

that's why I am so glad that I found this platform where I can share my love for Yuzuru Hanyu with people who also love him and support him!!

A big shout out and kudos to all Yuzuru Hanyu fans here who continue to update fellow fangirls with everything Yuzuru-related!!!:bow::clap:

Short Osaka show Clips and an interview with Hanyu and Machida together.
They talk about each other a bit.
Interviewer: What do you think about Hanyu winning 3 Gold Medals?
Machida: He has a lot strength that I don't have. I'm inspired by him.
I: What kind of strength?
M: For example, if Hanyu was a mouse and a Lion attacked him, he would not cower but fight the lion and win! He has that strength.
H: I still have places where it is just jumps I want to be fully artistic like Machida.
I: You said you would crush Hanyu...
H: They focused on just that one portion
M: They did, they didn't take it in context, it was half a joke half earnest. I want us to compete next season.

LOL it was super funny that he kept holding his face down when Machida said he had the courage of a mouse facing a lion and fighting. He must try very hard to not burst out a big laugh. But when the interviewer mentioned Machida's "crush" word, he just could not hold it any more and made a "puh". It can be seen that he and Machida both hold very positive thoughts and a lot of respect towards each other. This is amazing between two rivals.

well... duh! :sarcasm: if you go by that logic it would eliminate like 90% of all fandoms.

It's from this video. Also some others 1 2
thanks so much!
I could laugh about this all day long  he really is polite towards everybody and everything, even big brash birds that can't keep their wings under control (but who can blame the bird )

This was posted over at Lambiel thread (thanks to gallavich), I thought somebody here might be interested:

I'm not sure if anyone has seen this...it's a half-hour tv documentary where Stephane visited Japan after the earthquake. In the first part of the show, he visits the skate shop and rink in Sendai (the famous rink where Yuzuru and Shizuka Arakawa trained...they are mentioned briefly, but not in the video). It must have been soon after the rink re-opened, and he gives a skating lesson to some children there. In the second part of the video he goes to visit a young speed-skater who lost her home and father in the quake. He seems so caring and sweet. The video is all in English, btw

Nanami is in this video!!! Thanks for posting this, Nimi! So nice for Stephane to make a trip to Japan and do this documentary. It means a lot for those who have been affected by the earthquake. Lots of love for this guy (but seriously, lots of love b/c damn, what a talented and charming guy )

Hello, team Yuzu.
As I recall, my first post here was some sort of worrying/complaining about the kid's choreography and presentation. After reading an interview posted in this thread(thanks a lot ) my neurotic personality forces me to write something almost opposite to my previous message.
To perform anything like PW you've got to either have no solid foundation in terms of classical technique or be level insane so you can loosen up like that and perform in such natural and uninhibited manner. I've never skated, though, I'm a former ballroom dancer, not too succesfull, huh, so perhaps my observations have no value here. Anyway, while watching my mates practicing I concluded that inculcating the 'fundamentals' can be tricky - sometimes it leads to appealing to the eye, yet generally featureless performances.
My point - I hope Yuzuru will manage to retain the best that forms his identity as a skater and just polish it with the ballet classes. I take it to heart since I picture him becoming a freaking piece of art after he evolves, so I can't help getting anxious and excited.

I have questions for all of you knowledgable skaters regarding Yuzuru's posture. I've seen a lot of comments about him needing to improve his posture. Since I'm so ignorant about skating, I just know what appeals to me visually and artistically. It seems to me as if he "throws himself" into every movement, and that's what makes me feel that he is so passionate and "in the music/story".

The first question is, is it possible for a skater with proper posture to skate with passion?
Another question is, do the judges score on posture?

Thanks to anyone who cares to answer.

Thank you, WhateverHime!

I have heard Yuzuru compared with Stephane regarding their amazing spins. I'm glad to know that Yuzuru will be able to skate with both passion and good posture.

Yes, thank you Nimi for cross-posting :) I wasn't sure if there would be interest on the Yuzu thread as he isn't in the video, but yes, you do get to see Nanami and Toshinobu Yoshida, who sharpens Yuzuru's skate blades. Also to see the actual damage that was done to the rink...I had read & heard about it, but actually seeing it makes more of an impact, of course. It's wonderful that they were able to get it repaired. I can't imagine what it must have been like to be on the ice when the quake struck.

I see what you mean. I felt PW worked brilliantly in "hiding" Yuzuru's posture issues and even taking advantage of Yuzuru's loose-limbed skating style. I know Tatsuki has compared him to a mouse (different context I know ;)), but Yuzuru at times reminds me of a cat, seemingly relaxed and casual and then he explodes into those magnificent jumps. Since he is still very young (he could have even competed as a junior last year), it is natural that his style will still be evolving. He seems to have a very high degree of self-awareness so I trust he knows what he needs to develop what he has and not lose what makes him special in the first place. "Anxious and excited" I think is a good description of us Yuzuru fans for the coming season. :)

Another question is, do the judges score on posture?

Since someone already answered the first question, I'll take this one ;)

No, there are no points deducted or rewarded for posture. BUT, having good posture does improve your overall presentation of your program since its more aesthetically pleasing, and the judges can most certainly pick up on that, which in turn might give a little bit bit of a boost to your PCS scores (purely subjective though)

Yes, Yay! I don't know ballroom dancing or skating, but your description of PW seems so true to me.:clap:u I guess that was why I got hooked on his art and will happily watch as his art matures.

Don´t know if this interview with Asahi has been posted http://www.asahi.com/articles/ASG4B5K3MG4BUTQP029.html

EDIT.

If posture is so important and Yuzuru´s posture has so many problems. Why do you think his all coaches/ JSF didn´t care about correcting it until now? I remember reading that Yuzuru saids in his biography that he was a little rebel, but posture seems to be a basic learning for a skater.

I was wondering if anyone on this board knew when (what date) the Japanese Skating Federation will announce their skaters Grand Prix Assignments??? I would like to know which one Yuzuru is assigned to...Skate Canada or Skate America so i can book my tickets. Thanks!!!
