This article came up on Yahoo news today. It's from a gossip magazine so I won't post it on the other thread, but the content is about food and is harmless even if it's a lie so I will translate it a little bit.

Hanyu faced some problems with meals when he moved to Canada because he did not like meals served in North America such as big steaks and deer meat.
"With a small appetite, Hanyu was scared off by the big meals that were served in front of him, like large amounts of meat and big plate full of food. He felt as though he were 'being attacked by meat'. He doesn't like meals with strong flavors either so his appetite became smaller and smaller. His mother tried to reproduce meals she made in Japan by going to Korean supermarkets but failed." (quoted by a Figure Skating anonymous)
His immunity went down and he started to miss practices due to sickness. His physical and muscular strengths deteriorated and he injured his knee right before the WC in March 2013.
His mother decided to improve his diet and consulted a dietitian. She then realized that Hanyu's tendencies when eating meals.
"Hanyu gets full after 5 minutes of eating and does not finish his meal, but he starts eating again after 20 minutes saying he's hungry again." (quoted by the same anonymous)
It wasn't that he had a small appetite. "His stomach takes time to start moving so it took time for him to develop an appetite after starting a meal." (quoted by the same anonymous)
Then the article goes on about how his mother, under the instructions of a dietitian is making him drink soup before meals and making use of glutamic acid to increase his appetite. She tries to lessen his burden of eating visually by serving his rice in onigiri style rather than serving them in a rice bowl. Hanyu likes "nabe" (hot pot?) meals so she makes them often and since the ingredients are easy to buy anywhere, he usually eats nabe when he travels, etc.
