2014 Nebelhorn Trophy

is it weird that I picture Liza with her costume as one of those mature women who likes to dine-out and tip big?? lol I thinks because of the attitude too

Ugh, Gracie and the arm flailing, I can't take it. So many people say Frank C is a genius, but I haven't seen that be true with his work with her. I used to be a Gracie fan, but the fun and cute Gracie that I adored, hasn't shown up since coaching switch.

Veronik Mallet was impressive to me, I like her style. Also, good job Liza!

Actually I didn't think Gracie's performance was a bomb. Aside from the fall, she did everything else, including probably the best spins in the field.

No it wasn't her best, but there's a lot in between "best" and "meltdown."

Her personal best TES is 38+. She got 31 here, so that sounds about right. Her PCS is below her PB. So I said give or take 2 points she was scored what was expected.
Fall and 3+2 Combo. She lost about 3 points because of fall (-2,1 instead of about +1 if clean) and about 3 pounts because doubled 2-nd jump in combo.
Total about 6.

So she could have without these errors about 37.7 in TES, close to PB 38.53.

Polina should have no problem passing her as the top American girl.
Gracie both at 2012 and 2013 was not so good at beginning of season. She was 2-nd at US International Classic (below Zawadski in 2012 and Hicks in 2013), and not so good at GP Events.
But she at both seasons became much better at Nationals, Worlds, Olympics.

Well, I wasn't planning on even staying up for the Ladies -- but thanks to my bratty cat who woke me up to feed him around 1:30 PDT, I ended up watching the whole thing!

I'm glad I did because there were some great performances. Glad to see Alena and Liza do very well. I also enjoyed Brooklee, Juulia and Mariah's performances.

The sad thing to me is that they seem bent on trying to turn Gracie into someone else - rather than improving her into the best Gracie she can be; utiliise her strengths and work on them. Not that I hate this program or anything... it's just... okay. Unmemorable. I just think she could be so much better than this! I really like Gracie.

See! There was a purpose - you know... Cats Know Things... (mysterious, enigmatic tone - nods sagely)

I agree, especially since her program is boring. Or maybe it's just her lack of performance quality. She really has zero projection and connection with the audience.

Polina should have no problem passing her as the top American girl. Gracie's jumps have tanked since she started training with Carroll. Not only does she still not have consistency, but she no longer has quality. Her jumps are so small, with such hard landings - and that axel
Seems to me that the more weight she has lost, the more of her jump quality has been lost.

I liked Gracie's SP. I didn't see it today, but it's too early people.
There is a long way to go for competitions which really counts.

So. . . did anyone else catch that judge 9 gave Mariah Bell a .25 for interpretation. . . . could that be a typo, or did he seem to really want to insult her interpretation?

Big smiles from Matt and Paris on the warmup. Love to see that. Go guys!

Glad to see Alena and Liza do very well.
Very well Liza skated at Nats-2013, Alena - FS at Worlds-2011 and SP at Worlds-2012.
Also very well were Yuna at Worlds-2013, Julia at Team Event Olympics-2014, Mao and Caro at FS Individual Event Olympics-2014 etc.

Today Alena and Liza skated just well. They can better.

Likely a typo! It's likely not of much consequence since that score would have been thrown out...it was likely a 5.25.

The range of Mariah's PCS is noteworthy...in that particular category..Let's assume the 5.25. She received 5.25 to 7.50. That's a huge range. Compare that to Gracie who got a range of 7.5 to 8.5.

I hope she gets some useful feedback in the roundtable session later on.

I think we're talking semantics here. Better, sure. But I still think they did quite well. Alena's only mistake was the stepout on the 2A and Liza had a turnout on after the 3T-3T -- looking at the judges scores that was not much of a factor....

My point is, I think they did skate well, I enjoyed their performances and I believe it's a good start to the season.
