2014 Nebelhorn Trophy

Yet Gracie still received the highest PCS marks so I am sure as the season goes along she will be bumped up even more. I just do not get what the judges see in her. This was not her best yet she still gets high PCS marks.

I honestly think you are too harsh to Gracie ;)

Maybe its also a thing that you must see it live to really "see" it. I felt she did gracefully, sure not a perfect skate but as many said its just the start of the season and I don't think its necessary to be mean or over critical about her performance.

Other countries would be happy to have such a wonderful skater.

I don't get it either. I think they see good 'ol Frank at the boards watching her and thus mark her just for that. I want to route for Gracie since I'm American, but I just don't see it, unfortunately.

US champion vs. Russian number 4-5-6(?), that's what explains her PCS, imo.
It's such a shame, Gracie is a talented girl and a great natural jumper, and yet Carroll still managed to turn her into another American "pwetty princess" with poor executed jumps. He wanted more consistency and decided to sacrifice some height to achieve it, okay, I can understand that. But what's the point when consistency still didn't come and the wow-factor of her jumps is completely gone. Her jumps got smaller, rotated on the ice (and she used to compelete the rotation perfectly in the air with her previous coach), with hard landings. IMO, she should loose weight a bit, run away from Carroll (maybe Aratunian would agree to get her, Gold is still better than Wagner) and stay away from Lori and her American beauty trend programs.

Alena and Liza proved they aren't going to give up without a fight. I'm happy for Liza, good job! I'm not a fan of her program, but considering all the injuries and puberty issues, she did very well! Russian Nationals is gonna be a fight for these 3 spots, and even Adelina and Julia better watch out

Thanks, Alex! Also appreciate all your wonderful reports!

Gracie's speed and ice coverage is quite good, having seen it live. I don't connect to her performance, but that's just one factor in PCS scores.

Congrats to all the medalists!

I get Gracie's marks. Time will tell ;) She has huge potencial but that's all for now. She is like Adelina in disguise. She needs to work on her jumps and get back her trademark height on them. Aaaaand being consistent, of course. If so, she'll give a run for Rus girls' money :) I prefer her to Polina. "Pwetty princess" or not

I think her PCS marks were deserved. No matter how much I think that she lacks real connection to her music and to the audience, I still believe that she is a much more polished skater than Liza and Alena. Her lines, posture, and carriage are much better than theirs imo, and I think she has really improved in that regard. She just needs to work on her consistency and selling her programs as well as they do theirs. If she did those things, she could be the total package.

Anyone see the cyberborg Swan Lake? Haha I thought they were playing the wrong music...nope.

I think like too. But I came in the middle and they was playing Bjork...and I was like what???

Lovely Four Seasons program from Weaver/Poje!

Washington state's finest ice dancer just showed his stuff! Great job Kaitlin and Jean Luc! That was beautiful!

I watched Gracie's LP just now.

On the positive side, she looks better on the ice at this point in September, 2014 than she did in October / November 2013 during last year's Grand Prix. FC probably has helped her (somewhat) with consistency. Her axel isn't problematic as it was at the end of last season.

On the other hand, her Lutz doesn't look solid and she had the same problem at the local Glacier Falls competition in August. Maybe this is something to work out just like the axel.

A little worse for me, and it's been said, is that FC seems too interested in turning her into a Disney Ice Princess or some sort of skater reminiscent of the 60s, 70s or 80s when ladies were a little more doll-like and all about 'appearance'. To me, the smile during the Spiral was plastered on her face and she didn't give an impression that she wanted to be there competing, which scares me a little. I hope this all doesn't go the same way as Mirai's career a few years ago.

Also, she shouldn't be losing to Russia's B team with her talent regardless of whether it is early in the season or not. She needs to be more competitive and want to beat her competitors more if she expects to win. Maybe FC is restricting her in some way. IDK, some random thoughts.

I guess we will have to wait and see what happens one month from now at Skate America

I quite like the new Romeo&Juliet from Hawayek/Baker. They're still skating a little small I think, but there's room to grow with that program.

It has to be said, Madison Chock, you have toilet paper hanging off your dress. So embarrassing when that happens.

Woohoo! Nice, Liza!

Btw... Am I the only one who thinks that Gracie gained some weight this summer?

Sigh... That's funny because some were complaining last season that she was too skinny. I am really rooting for the girl to prove everybody wrong this season.

Both "Russian B ladies" here had so far a more successful career than Gracie.
Liza was more successful as a junior and as a senior won GP events qualified to GPF twice and she is 2 years younger than Gracie.
Alena won GPF bronz and Worlds silver medal.
