State of the U.S. Men's Figure Skating for 2014-15

I am always closer to how brown performs in competions than you are! You doubted top 10 finish in sochi. You doubt all his wins and hate him.
I still don't understand if you like or dislike Jason's score. Well... If Machida's jumps aren't back to him asap I can see others winning.

I hate him. Yes, that's exactly right.

I doubted that he would medal at Sochi in the individual event. BIG DIFFERENCE. And I was right.

It's very obvious Brown will win skate America.

How is it obvious :rolleye: that Brown will defeat no fewer than three men whose 2013-14 SB scores were higher than his??

3 282.26 Tatsuki MACHIDA JPN ISU World Championships 2014 28.03.2014
7 255.10 Denis TEN KAZ XXII Olympic Winter Games 2014 14.02.2014
10 246.35 Jeremy ABBOTT USA ISU World Championships 2014 28.03.2014
12 243.09 Jason BROWN USA ISU GP Trophee Bompard 2013 16.11.2013

Mrs. P loves Jason.
Mrs. P does not love unfounded over-optimism.

I thougt I made this clear. I don't like it but its irrelevent! He gets the score to win or medal in events over and over. If machida doesn't have his jumps than its a brown lanslide. Even If machida has his jumps its going to be close. The system is the system and allows brown huge event winning scores potentially. Am I going to be like underrating his potential and absurdly not predicting at least silver for him in skate America because I would prefer someone with a quad?

You doubted top 10 and laughed at brown in final group thoughts!

There has never been unfounded over optimism. He made the final group in sochi and if he didn't zayak and bomb medal was possible.

LOL, you conveniently ignored my question. It is not "obvious" that Jason is going to win Skate America.

If Jason does win, I will be thrilled for him. As will Mrs. P.

Can you please dig up the post where I said that I didn't think Jason would get top 10? I said that I'd rather him get top 10 than get a bronze in a spaltfest. And there was a splatfest AND he still didn't medal. So there.

The answer to your question is that brown does a program he's more secure with and if he had been sent to worlds its likely his sb score Would be much higher because then his scores would be In a high scoring environment. Plus his reputation has soared and he always does better than people predict! Always. It's amazing.

I will get it.

He didn't medal because he became part of the splatfest.

Math. I did it. He might have a smidgen of a chance with a clean skate. But again, he had to be absolutely perfect.

Look, if you want Jason Brown to be the model of all that is wrong with COP, then please say so instead of making these remarks where people sort of think you're a fan.

I am still looking for all the relevent posts and threads.

The issue is brown just won nebelhorn. Even if I felt exactly as you say and brown represents all wrong in cop that is not a reason not to predict him for wins medals high placements that he gets almost every single time he competes. Predicting wins and medals doesn't mean someone is a fan of someone just looking at the numbers and precedents in competions. All of which indicates that brown has a great shot to win skate America. At least silver.

Nope, you are exaggerating these silly outcomes - i.e. he's guaranteed to win Skate America -- to somehow feel vindicated that Jason is all that is wrong with COP. Instead of providing an articulate reason of WHY Jason is a problem. And no, "Jason doesn't have a quad!" isn't enough.

Let me flip it--perhaps Jason is a model of how you succeed at COP despite not having all the technical goods. The quad is not the be-all, end-all of figure skating, especially if you are messy at everything else.

However, not having a quad, mathematically forces Jason into a position to be perfect if he wants to win the big prizes (I don't consider Nebelhorn a big prize). He is nowhere near Hanyu at his worse (high 160s) even when at his best (which is in the high 150s currently). Heck, Fernandez zayaked at the Olympics and still scored in the mid 160s, which what I think Jason would get AT BEST with a perfect program with no quad.

Now you are backtracking from an "obvious" win. ;)

Denis Ten did not compete at 2014 Worlds either, and his SB is over 12 points higher than Jason's.

Machida, Ten, and Abbott have shown in the past that they too are capable of exceeding expectations.

My opinion is that it is not unthinkable that Jason could end up winning Skate America.
But it not "obvious" to me that he is sure to win it.

ETA, forgot to ask:

If Jason is so secure with his new FS, how do you explain his 4 URs at Nebelhorn??

But I keep saying what I feel about what a skater should do is totally irrelevent to what is being proven to be a winning strategy like brown winning at nebelhorn. People were doubting his winning of nebelhorn or even medaling because of no quad! That turned out to be completely irrelevent to the whole competion. You are posting exactly what i am saying when you post about making cop work for you when you don't have all the "technical goods." But he has all the technical goods in spins and steps and all jumps except quads. So I disagree with you on he technical goods remark because of spins and steps and because of all other jumps he won nebelhorn. Brezina was 4th at worlds twice. That's not nothing.

Now you are backtracking from an "obvious" win. ;)

Ten had been to a worlds many times. Brown has not. The PB is not reflective of the talent and new reputation of brown.

They were only urs not dgs and they were irrelevent anyways.

Oh, give it up, gmyers. Jason is not going to win SkAm unless everyone else falls in a heap. Machida, Abbott and Ten and even Gachinski are totally different propositions to Brezina.

The SkAm podium I want:

1. Gachinski
2. Brown
3. Machida

LOL, I guess you're looking at me, Mrs. P ;), re misunderstanding why gmyers is throwing around pronouncements re Jason.
Thx  for rectifying my naivete. :)

I cited SBs, not PBs. And I don't buy your answers. But won't waste my time further -- and don't want to distract you from finding those old posts and threads that you promised. ;)

Eh, well if you want to mask your intentions, that's not my problem.

Eh, well if you want to mask your intentions, that's not my problem.

What intentions? Predicting Victories and medals has nothing to do with intentions because he did win nebelhorn. He did win the fs at jr worlds in 2013. He did win jrgpf. He did win a medal at teb in 2013. He wins events and and wins medals. I am predicting victory at Skam because of his record of winning and winning medals. People who doubt only say he doesn't have a quad! Yeah the quad has proven to be so important. He accumulates the points in pcs and spins and steps and other jumps. So my intentions are to predict victory for someone who wins and wins medals all the time! I want people to win and medal who do quads but the system has no requirement for that and it silly to doubt him winning and or medaling based solely on lacking a quad. It's not relevent!

I have been searching the archives but there aren't search thread options so I have to go through every page! But whatever ill say I was wrong or confused.

I want to see winners do quads but know its not necessary so when predicting victory for brown like at nebelhorn means I am up to something even when he does indeed win nebelhorn!? So from now on I should never predict brown for medals or victories because he doesn't do a quad?

Jason really needs to start throwing the quad out there he's almost 20 now otherwise he will keep having to rely on others mistakes. I want to see a champion who doesn't need others to lose to win. There really is no reason not to go for it now.

Jason is a consistent competitor with no apparent nervous/focus/psych issues.

That is a huge plus among US men, who haven't been known for their consistency/mental game.

If he doesn't yet have a quad ready -he doesn't have it. Hopefully he will soon- but at 19, he has time.

I'm more concerned that he stays healthy and branches out with new choreographers.
