Wow ! Remember when Sandra would say that Johnny Weir had the perfect body for figure skating. So does this young man. He may need gloves though. I know it's very Russian and it's very smart. I always thought Todd E. needed gloves as he never really extended though his finger tips which ruins the line of the arm when gesturing.

I really like his smooth crossovers and elegant qualities. I hope he's a good competitor as it seems like many of the US Men falter when they become seniors.

Heh. Jason can land a quad, but I do appreciate that he's not trying to throw it in his programs if he can't do it consistently in practice. I hate it when figure skaters or gymnasts repeatedly attempt skills in competition when they can't land them -- it reminds me of Yamilet Abreu, a gymnast who nearly kills herself every time she attempts a vault she clearly can't land safely. And as much as I adore Jeffery Buttle, it annoyed me when he would plan a "quad fall" in his programs (that's more of a problem with the scoring system than Jeff himself, but it still made me fear for his health).

So for those who are critical of Abbott for his quote, are you equally critical of Gold for hers???

I don't see any difference -- and I don't have a problem with either quote. I think they mean that their motivation is coming from within.
 
My apologies, Jason and his fans. lol I'm probably the oldest member on this forum. Cut me some slack!!!! lol I do have a sight problems affecting reading since I had a rare complication from cataract surgery; however, this was a case of poor reading.

Ohhhhh, please accept my apology to you, Icey. I hope that you can forgive my insensitive attempt at humor. :bang: The possibility of a real-life vision problem was the furthest thing from my mind, but that is no excuse. Very sorry.

First, yes I am. I'm surprised to hear any skater who is endorsed by the USFSA make this kind of statement. I realize that maybe what they mean is,

"I'm out there on the ice by myself and if I don't believe I can do it, I never will." Or,

"Keeping 3 spots for the US has been difficult recently and if I'm going to help maintain our spots, it has to start with me skating well. If I don't skate well, it's not just me who loses but, the USFSA as well."

"That extra spot is crucial and if I don't skate well, we could lose it. I want to make sure that doesn't happen by training hard and making sure I'm at my best every time I go out there."

There are ways to keep ones self motivated and sometimes the big picture is the best way to do it. They skate well, everybody wins. Jeremy finally gets that medal and Gracie becomes World Champion.

Add to that. They keep 3 spots and allow another promising skater to gain World experience all at the same time.

They can do both.

True but it also bothered me that Brian Boitano and Evan Lysacek pretended to be artists too - kind of analagous to Buttle's quad attempt. I know a lot will disagree but it is part of trying to win gold. People faking they are jumpers, artists whatever.

The difference lies in history. Gracie gave the team event her everything. She didn't put in a sub-par performance then blow it off with inane comments like "it's a positive step, it's just a warmup!"


Excited to hear that Jason is training the quad every day and he thinks it's close. I don't know if anyone's picked it up, but if you want an honest assessment of where a jump's at for Jason, you ask him, not Kori...much I like Kori, she was telling us he was landing the 3A in practice two years before he excitedly told icenetwork that he was landing it.
 
No need for you to apologize, golden411. Your response was humorous, and I chuckled at it and laughed at myself. My own statement, which i now realize was mean spirited , has reminded me I need to be more careful about what I say and write.
