The 1973 Worlds were held behind the Iron Curtain in Bratislava, and it proved to be a discouraging challenge for many Western skaters. In fact, many top US and Canadian teams were so discouraged by the politics and inconsiderate treatment that they chose to no longer participate as competitors.
