In 1996, the World Championships took place in Edmonton, Alberta, but due to an ISU rule, Kurt Browning wasn't allowed to perform as planned in the opening ceremonies. After much negotiation, he and Kristi Yamaguchi were permitted to take part briefly in the closing ceremonies.
