2025 Robin Cousins Cup | Aug 21-22

I liked that from Genevieve SOMERVILLE (GBR).

Beautiful black dress with cream end to the skirt bit.

"Gravity" by Sara Bareilles suits her so well.

And the skating was beautiful.

After what happened with Nina, I'm hesitant to say this. But, she could be in the mix here.

She goes into 8th position.

Right, I'm shutting up from now on!

CaroLiza_fan

Now for the last of my kids. Making her Senior debut.

:cheer: ALL THE BEST STEFANIA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

The music has only just started, and I love this programme already!

That dress is gorgeous. I've said it plenty of times over the years, but black is definitely Stefania's colour.

Beautiful combination to start with.

And individual jump next beautiful too.

And the spin.

Sorry for not saying any more. But I couldn't type. I couldn't take my concentration away from her.

That was faultless!

Well, I know which is going to be the highest of my kids after the SP. But, dare I say it, can she take the lead?

Not far off it! She goes into 2nd position, just 1.34 points behind the leader.

:cheer: WELL DONE STEFANIA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

Sorry, Victoria. I couldn't concentrate on you. I'm still in shock over how good Stefania was.

But I can say that magenta isn't her colour.

Going by the expressions of both her and her coach, maybe it's a good thing. Neither of them look at all happy.

She goes into 7th position.

Oh, a half hour break now. Maybe I'll wind back and watch her properly before watching the last 2 Junior girls from Riga.

CaroLiza_fan

OK, watched Victoria ALCANTARA (AUS) again. And apart from the fall, I can't see why she and her coach were looking so miserable.

That said, the music isn't the most cheerful! Maybe it affected their moods!

CaroLiza_fan

And to end the day, it's time for chaos!

Has Yorkshire got the right soil ice for growing 🌵 cacti? We'll find out now!

I'll probably only see the first group LIVE due to tea-time. So, I'll pause the stream and hope it stays available long enough for me to finish it after eating.

CaroLiza_fan

Not familiar with the first song playing during the Warm-Up, but it was definitely Robbie Williams singing it.

TAKE THAT!!!!!!!!!! :cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

For a change, it's a Mark Owen song. "Shine".

And I hope the girls in this group do just that! ;)

So, we've had Robbie Williams. And now Mark Owen. We have to hear Gary Barlow before the day is out!

I am such a kid of the 90's, aren't I?

CaroLiza_fan

No Gary yet. But, we're getting another dose of Robbie. "Rock DJ" this time.

Followed by "If You're Getting Down" by Five.

Bringing back memories of hating Ritchie Neville because he was going out with Billie Piper.

Hey, I was a teenager with a crush!

CaroLiza_fan

I know those voices!

@elektra blue where are you? Lucas FITTERER (GBR) is skating to Il Volo!

No, it's not "Grande Amore", for a change. It's "L'Immensita". Which sounds more you.

Or does the fact that it's Il Volo override everything else?

Anyway I really enjoyed that programme.

He goes into the lead.

CaroLiza_fan

I think I will stay on until the end of the Warm-Up. I need to leave with different music in my head than what Michael XIE (USA) was skating to.

The music itself was beautiful. It was the screeching over it that was the problem.

He goes into the lead.

CaroLiza_fan

Just noticed that it didn't work when I pressed "Post Reply" at the end of the Group 2 Warm-Up. So, I will try it again now, as I go back to watch the programmes!

Oh. Skater #5 Charlton DOHERTY (AUS) has withdrawn. So we now effectively have two groups of 4.

I think I will stay on until the end of the Warm-Up. I need to leave with different music in my head than what Michael XIE (USA) was skating to.

Bad decision. I don't know what this song is, but it is not my taste.

Or maybe not. Now we've got "Dancing In The Moonlight" by Toploader.

Right, time for food.

CaroLiza_fan

Maurizio ZANDRON (AUT).

I love "Earth Song" by Michael Jackson. But, did he really need to include the dialogue?

Bit disappointed with the generic costume. This is the guy that is famous for portraying the Mad Hatter, after all.

The skating made up for it, though.

He went into the lead.

CaroLiza_fan

This is a very different programme to what I would have expected from Valtter VIRTANEN (FIN).

Ad you know what - it worked! I really enjoyed that.

I was picturing Japanese samurai going into battle. And when I looked up his ISU Bio, I found out that it was a piece called "Black Belt" by Fabian Kreutzer Sound. So, I guess I was pretty close!

He's wearing all black, and there is a pattern on his back, but I can't make out what it is.

Wife Alina Meyer sitting with him. But, no interraction while we are looking at them. She is looking up at the screen, and he is looking down taking his skates off.

He went into 4th position.

CaroLiza_fan

Ah, I forgot that both of the Fitterer brothers were here.

Maybe this is more your taste, @elektra blue.

Lucas skated to Il Volo earlier. Ken is skating to music from "Ladies In Lavender". No doubt a tribute to Maggie Smith, who died after last season had started.

Nigel Hess' "Fantasy For Violin And Orchestra" is a beautiful piece at the best of times. But it makes a beautiful tribute to a great actress.

And Ken did it justice.

He went into 5th position.

CaroLiza_fan

From the sublime, to the ridiculous.

What on Earth was that racket that Samuel MINDRA (USA) was skating to?! 🙉

It doesn't matter how he skated. That mess of noise totally spoiled the programme.

Not the music that I wanted to end the day with.

He finished in 3rd poistion.

CaroLiza_fan

I really enjoyed the senior men's skates today - lots of variety of styles and some really nice performances. Looking forward to tomorrow.

Just to let you know, due to withdrawals since the original schedule was announced, there have been changes to the schedule today.

Here is the revised Time Schedule:

https://app-cdn.sportity.com/cb6c90ab-a4a0-4345-9595-2870708c1e3f/b5963b2b-4b32-4f34-b13a-d5ba5c2a771f_Robin Cousins Cup - Provisional TT - V2.pdf

The Junior competitions are still starting at the same time, but the Senior competitions are now starting earlier than originally planned.

  • The Senior Ladies FS is now starting at 14:59:00 BST, which is 15 minutes earlier than the originally planned 15:14:00 BST.
  • The Senior Men's FS is now starting at 17:00:00 BST, which is 23 minutes earlier than the originally planned 17:23:00 BST.

It all means that we are due to finish at 18:16:00 BST, which is 47 minutes earlier than the originally planned 19:03:00 BST.

Unfortunately, the timetable at the bottom of the Entries / Results page has not been updated, and is still showing the old times. But the OP of this thread has been updated.

So, please keep your wits about you!

OK. At the end of the Judges being introduced, the announcer asked my kid Alex Lapsky to come out onto the ice and close the gate.

And such a round of applause he got. And boys but he milked it!

Ah, Robin Cousins is in attendence today. Bet you he'll be giving out the medals.

The question is how many of my kids will be getting medals? And what colour will they be?

Not long until we find out for my Pairs kids. They are on the ice now doing their Warm-Up.

Don't know the song, but looked it up and is "One Less Angel In Heaven" by The Four Vandals.

I have to admit, I was having trouble working out who was who at the start, especially since the American and British team jackets are the same colour. Fortunately the two British partnerships ditched the jackets very quickly, which made it a lot easier.

Zarah and Alex did a beautiful set of side-by-side jumps. And then quickly ran to get out of the way of Rebecca RITCHIE / Kyle McLEOD (GBR),! But, it wasn't quick enough, and the other partnership had to abort what they were doing. Then within seconds the exact same thing happened between the two American partnerships!

Next time they came into shot, they attempted another set of side-by-side jumps, but were way out of sync. Alex was so out that he ended up on his backside.

When the music changed to a song I did know, "Chanson D'Amour" by Manhatten Transfer, they did a throw, and Zarah landed two-footed. They then lined up another throw while going down to the other end of the rink, but it was done out of camera shot. But, judging from the way Zarah was when they came back into shot, I think it went better.

They then circled round the rink casually, and then did the same again. And again, it looked like it had gone well when they came back into camera shot. Then the same happened three more times with a different type of throw, but by the tme they came back into shot, you couldn't tell if it had gone well or not.

By the time the third song came on, "Then I Kissed Her" by the Beach Boys, they were finished warming up, and went to talk to Zoe.

One partnership, and then they're on.

CaroLiza_fan

The first partnership may be Meek by name, but their FS music was definitely not meek. A "Romeo And Juliette" programme.

Yes, the girl's name is Juliet. But she's skating with her brother! :drama:

A very dramatic programme to start the day with. And I enjoyed it.
