She's high enough to make it happen, escpecially that there some skaters like Alysa who, as we already know, are possible to WD. I was also confused but when you mentioned this it actually sounds like a smart strategy, if she gets other spot via ranking, they can get another skater one.Interesting that Finland did not choose Iida directly. Is she so high in rankings of subsitutes the fed waits if she could get another spot elsewhere?
I suppose Milla/Nikolaj, Kyrylo and Andreas replace Finland's host spots. Otherwise Kyrylo would have had only one spot of his own, am I right, or did he have two?
Probably I will not go to Finlandia this time expect if I have a meeting at Helsinki on that Saturday I may go to watch only SPs as I will be there anyway.
There is an article at Skatingfinland website informing that Iida will skate both in Canada and Finland. So it is just a mistake that Iida is not on the list.Interesting that Finland did not choose Iida directly. there is no requirement to even have any. It simply means that the US Men didn't earn as many spots as they sometimes do. Some years, we have 3 Japanese men or women at pretty much every event. That's the maximum. There is no minimum. Why is there only one US men's spot in Finland?
And Jean-Luc also got NHK so they can enjoy the trip togetherSo happy for Olivia Smart and Tim Dieck getting an assignment at NHK. She's mentioned quite a few times how she has yet to skate in Japan, and it looks like it's finally happening!!!!![]()

Or the federations have some deal going on. There is only 1 US skater in Finland and Finland didn't name their hostspot yet. Do they have a Finish skater who has the tec minimum? If not they could invite an US skater since 2 skaters of one country are allowed unless it's your home GP (host gets one extra at home GP ?) right?Another interesting absences:
Max Naumov - his SB wasn't super high on the list to earn him guaranteed spot but he was still higher than some of the guys who got those spots plus he's popular olympian so I believe it means rather that he has no plans to compete in the fall.
For GP is no TES minimums, only total score minimums. To host spots minimums are not required, only highly recommended. Finland will fill open host spots, TBD, by Finnish skaters. The skaters will be selected after Finland's summer competition and announced 14th September.Or the federations have some deal going on. I think Kyrylo was guaranteed 2 all the time. But it´s nice for him to go to Finlandia since he trains there.Interesting that Finland did not choose Iida directly. Is she so high in rankings of subsitutes the fed waits if she could get another spot elsewhere?

Honest question :can you name a skater who only has only one assignment who would be a favourite to get to GPF if they were given a second one ?Sports wise this is a disaster.
I will never understand why so many skaters get one GP assignment, when higher ranked skaters could have used a second one.
For me, the GP should be about the best of the best...now there are a lot of skaters who won't have a chance to reach the GPF.![]()
Exactly. From the current field I think maybe Lajoie/Baker can be GPF contenders but they are very new and we don't know how competitive the can be in the fall plus they still have a chance to get the host spot.Honest question :can you name a skater who only has only one assignment who would be a favourite to get to GPF if they were given a second one ?
It rarely happens. And I know that it does happen but it's often a surprise. Just like when Osmond won skate Canada early in the season and was NOT given a second assignment... that was terrible to see spots being reallocated and she, being passed down.
But, I don't see any names right now of skaters who have only one spots who are really potentially going to win their event.
