(As in comic strips > as in Pogo > as in the Cheerful Charlies characters' storyline. My family were Pogo addicts and had bought all the collected books of the comic strip before I was born. I was reading them in kindergarten, although I didn't get the political satire at all. But if someone was either very gloomy or very smiley in our family, someone would say "Well, you're a real Cheerful Charlie today!". The word brings those books to mind for me every time .)
