A series of strange phone calls.

So yesterday I reiceved some very strange phone calls. The first one was a man with an accent, I believe it was Indian, telling me that a legal action had been filed against me, gave me a case number and a phone number to call. I called and a man with an American accent who claimed to be an attorney told me that a legal action had been filed against me due to a payday loan that I had not paid back. I informed him that I had never recieved a payday loan and he put me on hold, which I believed involved him just sitting the phone down because I heard him answer another phone and give a different name. When he came back I told him what I had heard and he hung up. I was still nervous and afraid that maybe someone had done something in my name so, I did a credit check and contacted my bank and nothing was showing up. At this point, I realized that the number they told me to call, and the number they called from were the same. I googled the number and found out that they have done this to quite a few people. Later that evening they called back. This time it was a woman with an Indian accent. She told me that they needed to speak to my attorney or I could do a financial settlement right then. I told her I knew this was a scam and then she told me I would be arrested the following morning. When i told her I had googled the phone number and found out what they were doing she got very angry, called me an idiot and told me I was wasting her time and then hung up.

I found it kind of funny at how angry she got but it still rattled me to receive such phone calls out of the blue.

I'm sorry you had to put up with this nonsense, but I know at some point you realized that they were going to offer to let you "settle up" to avoid that arrest tomorrow morning! lolol

If I ever got one of these calls, I'm going to pretend to be all upset/hysterical and like OMG, OMG, what do you need? my ssn and bank account numbers and all my computer passwords? Would those help me avoid this horrid arrest???? (Of course I'm not telling them anything.) Or maybe it would be better to say, "oh, goodness, are you sure the arrest is not for that bank heist I pulled last week? I never thought that measly loan would catch up to me -- or is it the drug trafficking I've been doing on the side? No? really, it's that darn payday loan? Well, when the police come, tell them NOT to bring a search warrant for my basement!

Yah, like anyone's gonna let you know in advance that you're gonna be arrested/served. Silly scams. I keep getting the one about my unclaimed UPS/USPS package (I've gotten both) that I've got to pay for since I never picked it up.

Beware the e-mail scams...like you owe the IRS or one that arrived recently in my box from an airline that I'd never heard of asking me to confirm my ticket reservation. I hate to fly & haven't stepped on a plane in 20 years! LOL!.

I've been getting the email about a family member that has been robbed overseas and needs money to get home.
