It is pretty telling they skipped the open skates though

Katsalapov skipped open skates too. Pretty telling too I suppose. These pairs will have lots of attention when they appear on competitions, it was only wise not to show on open skates when you are not ready- for others, including judges and specialists to draw any conclusions that would be premature and have possible impact on their actual results, marks and placement. It is too risky.
I think both new pairs have good potential and only time will tell if they could realize it or not.

All I did was point out that the negative reviews were coming from either a federation official who wasn't afraid to use her name and a respected FSU poster, and were not a rumor started by some teenie in love with Nikita.

The thing about me suspecting also a kind of a mean intention, or envy, was not regarding the reports of I&Z not being good.
It was about these rumors that "people" (who're they?) think that Elena is just waiting to find a suitable husband.
That to me is going too far, and it's not a criticism towards the user who brought this, but towards those who are actually saying these things.

As for Ermolina's report, I was dissapointed tbh.
She said she doesn't understand the technical part, and I would've liked to know something about the program as well.
Meaning the choreo, etc. Instead we had just: "She's doing all the work for him" or something like that.
What does that mean? Interpretation, skating, what exactly?
As I said, I expect something more from a journalist. Especially when it's writing about a new couple, after a "dramatic" split.

And I am just being a realist here. And as I've said in my other posts, the fact they are not good now does not mean they won't be good down the road. If Ina and Zimmerman could make it to a world podium and actually be interesting in the process, there is hope for any couple.

Absolutely!
I'm optimistic myslef. I might be wrong, but she is extremely talented and gifted. He is a really good skater, so I think this will work actually.
Maybe is just the fan in me speaking, who knows? Only time will tell.

It would be very scary if you couldn't write into the fan fest of your favorite skater if it's anything but praise!
These threads should be used to discuss a skater.
For example I love Elena and these two are my favorite couple already, but nonetheless I should be allowed to voice concerns or say "Well usually I love them but this and that wasn't good imo"
It should be there to share knowledge and opinions about the skater :)

That's how I intend Fan-Fest as well. Haters and bashing the skaters no, but we should be able to discuss also other things that are not just pleasure.

Completely agree with Alba.
But this doesn't change a simple fact.It was Olga T., the photographer and not Olga Ermolina the press secretary who reported, she stated it was her personal opinion and didn't report at all on technical stuff. Of course, using Ermolina's name makes it more, official, but I don't think Ermolina herself would appreciate it.Minor thing, but better keep the facts straight when using people's names.Which we should be doing anyway because the woman used a nickname and it's just not polite.

Nobody believes that I/Z wll win a world medal in their first year together, probably not in their second year together, but this doesn't mean that people shouldn't like two skaters, they probably liked even before. If the fact that Elena Ilinykh still has some people who believe in her skating rubs people the wrong way it's another story.

The story about average Ruslan is actually funny to everyone that knows a tiny bit about the sport. The other story about average looking Ruslan is even insulting in a way cause beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and this is a sport. The boyish looks story is kind of old, but it's as if you repeat it all the time and then expect that people will start believing it.

Nobody talked about a conspiracy, but if Ilinykh and Zhiganshin's fans are so annoying to some people, it's better to stop communicating with them.Of course there is envy, we know it for years, and of course there are people that always get angry when other people like someone, it just makes them run away. But it's people's choice to like someone, and if they are average let them be, if they are good let them be, but I'm afraiid that the problem here is that they might be really good someday

Thanks alithia. That is good to know.
The report on the Russian test skates was that Ermolina wrote that on FSO.

I think so yes, unless they choose to do a russian cup competition, earlier to get feedback. Though I'm sure they have judges and specialists from their fed coming to the rink on a regular basis as most couples do.

I haven't been here in a while... I don't know any sport, where the off season is sooooo long, that sucks.
So when are they finally going to compete? I can't find any answer in this forum.

The first event they are officially competing at is Cup of China in Shanghai, which runs from November 7th through the 9th. :)

I found this quote most telling;

Q: A figure skating man?
EI: No! Certainly not. When you talk to someone from figure skating world it's like talking to the whole figure skating world. It's hard. Don't reveal anyone how happy you are so they can't spoil it. When someone knows you too well knows what makes you tick and makes you happy it's the point they would use against you to make you hurt the most. I did't know such evil people existed, but I faced them and now I know better.

I think this young woman has been through a great deal with Nikita and Morozov. I really do hope for the sake of all that is good that she and Ruslan really do well. Pulling for them!
