Simon contributed a story to this new IN article :). He explained how it felt to master an overhead lift for the first time (with his first partner, not with DeeDee).

Doris, thx for adding so much to the OP :).

I have added another video of young DeeDee as a singles skater, from 2008 FrenchieSkate. The first part is DeeDee talking briefly about what she likes about the event. Then video of her skate.

Off topic:
Any word on LeDuc? Any chance that he will return to competitive skating?

I haven't seen anything about LeDuc.

ETA that was an interesting set of comments by Simon about the lift.

Today USFS tweeted an announcement re Simon's retirement.

Simon Shnapir, a two-time U.S. pairs champion and 2014 Olympian, has announced his retirement from competitive skating.

"I am grateful for the many years that I had the privilege to represent Team USA," Shnapir said. "As I transition away from competitive skating, I am looking forward to coaching full time and also getting into broadcasting. ...

Leng will consider various options moving forward and will first concentrate on recovering from a recent concussion.

"I really enjoyed working with Simon and I couldn't have asked for a better partner or friend. I wish him the best in his future," she said. "Thank you to everyone who has encouraged and supported us. As for the future, I'm not quite sure what's in store, but my main goal right now is to get healthy and recover from my injury."

Best to Simon. Look forward to his work in broadcasting :).

And hope DeeDee recovers soon. Good luck to her as well.

Long article with a lot of reflections from Simon on his career.
Made me cry. Sigh.
His family and he have a lot to be proud of .

So sorry to read about the extent of both Simon's injuries and DeeDee's. Wishing a return to good physical health for both in the future.

Sending best wishes to DeeDee :luv17:, who is quoted in the second article of IN's concussion series.

Mini-excerpt re DeeDee at present:

For former pairs skater DeeDee Leng, her recovery from a concussion suffered last April has been gradual. ....

Leng, who lives at home with her family in the Chicago suburb of Naperville, said she has only skated a couple of times since her accident. When she has been on the ice, it has often resulted in headaches.

These days, Leng has all but left skating behind. She is taking classes at a local college and is considering a career in industrial design.
