State of U.S. Ladies' skating 2016-17

The change does make the thread consistent with the other related threads, i.e. we have a State of U.S. Dance and State of U.S. Men threads. It makes the thread easier to find on Google. :)

OK, so the thread title has been modified. Can we please move on now and discuss the topic at hand? Thanks.

Mods - would it be possible to move the discussion on the use of "American" to a separate thread, please? Thank you!

I came back to this thread after two days off, hoping it would be about the state of U.S. ladies' skating again. Thank you, Layback11, for hopefully helping us turn the corner. :-) Interested to see that Caroline is actually back in the mix. Nagasu's LP should be interesting; I can kind of see it.

Gracie using Daphnis and Chloe for her FS: that's what Sarah Hughes skated to in her FS in her Olympic season.

Oh, you poor thing! Don't your ears start ringing after a run through? ;)

No, actually, they don't. ;) My coach allowed me to choreograph my own show program and I chose that because she doesn't like lyrics for competition, so I would otherwise probably never get to use it. :) Believe it or not, I've actually gotten several compliments on that music choice

Of the ladies who've posted both sp and fs selections, these are the ones that I feel reflect a really nice contrast and balance between the two. I'm especially excited to see the Cole Porter number from Avery, and Mariah's both: Chicago and EoE, two of my fave FS music choices.

Love Ashley's choice of Exogenesis, Marai's Chopin, Amber's Rhapsody, Angela's Somewhere Over the Rainbow, and Caroline's Mission. Not crazy about Gracie's Assassin's tango, but any Spanish style brings out something great in her IMO, so good for her. I listened to Marai's Winner Takes it All, and I thought it was a little too pointed, unlike this year's Demons. But I do love the singer's voice in that version. As for Ashley Cain's selections :noshake:-- well, let's say I'm glad I can look forward to seeing what she chooses for the Pairs comps with Tim! :luv17:

:thank: for posting this list, Layback. Your list makes it more clear than seeing ind. selections and trying to envision one by one. For me, anyway. :)

Awww....sorry you've had such a horrible week. Hugs to you, Sophy. Hope things get better.

Thanks, humbaba. I know I've probably been over dramatic. It is just that sometimes someone's posting style can hit badly at the worst time for someone. Anyway, thanks for the kindness. It made me smile. Now I'm going to eat ice cream.

As you were, guys. Btw, on topic before I go, loving Mirai's programmes. Very promising.

You're welcome! credit goes to Ioanna for the idea-she posted a similar list in the Japanese Ladies thread.

Do we know if Kaitlyn Nguyen has a coach yet? She was at the LA Open recently but the fan camps cut before we see any kiss and cry action.

She does. Her coach is Ivan Dinev. It must be working out well. She won that competition with about 160.

Following up with a little more re Kaitlyn Nguyen:

Within the last few days, she gave thanks via Instagram to her coaches.
kaitlynguyen2022 Angela, Ivan Dinev, Sia Sharenkova are my greatest Bulgarian team coaches that ever happened to me. They are the KEY to my success!! Thank you so much for helping me to be the best that I can be!! Couldn't have done it without your dedication!!!❤️

"Angela" = Angela Nikodinov.

Are not Angela and Ivan Dinev married? I also thought Angela has a child? Good for Kaitlyn. Anytime you feel inspired by a new situation it reinforces why you left the old one.

So happy to see Kaitlyn Nguyen doing well. I'm a big fan.

That instagram photo is so cute. The trophy is almost as big as Kaitlyn.

Hmmm, only my speculation, but perhaps we have a possible clue re the TBA slot at Skate America???:

Alexa Knierim has posted an Instagram about a project for Champs Camp.
She tagged many Team USA skaters (from all disciplines).
Angela Wang is the only one of the tagged skaters who does not yet have a GP assignment.

The project involves applying rhinestones to John Wilson Blades swag. In the photo, Alexa appears to be working on a JWB garment earmarked for "M. Nagasu."
Again, only my speculation, but I suspect that Alexa received something to rhinestone for each Champs Camp skater in the John Wilson Blades/MK Blades family.
If so, she would need to be given something in the correct size for each skater, and she would need sufficient time to get all the rhinestoning done in time for Champs Camp.
So is it possible that USFS would have told John Wilson in advance who will fill the TBA slots??

[The ladies who are tagged by Alexa are Angela, Mirai, Ashley, Gracie, Polina, and Courtney.
Men: Max, Adam, and Nathan.
Dancers: Maia and Alex.
Pair skaters: Haven, Tarah, and Danny.
JWB reposted Alexa's Instagram ... and tagged most of the same skaters, including Angela.]

Only my speculation. In any case: Go, Angela :yay:.
