I just had a customer pay for some items and there was a strange looking quarter in her money she handed me. Upon examination I determined it is a 2010 Vancouver Olympics quarter. I guess we will be seeing more of this in the next couple of years!!

Yes, they are nice. The athletes that went to the Canada Winter Games last year received a box set of all the coins. It's a nice collection. Which one did you see?

Anyone else collecting them? Mom managed to spot one in her change the other day (and w/how severe her Macular Degeneration is, that really was an amazing thing!! ) and it was the Bialathlon (Darn!! I used to know how to spell that!!) one. I think, w/the exception of the Snowboarding quarter that's just been released, I have all of the Quarters that have been released.

This reminds me...I meant to check and see if the Biathlon (HA!! I knew I knew how to spell that!! LOL!!) quarter is a double or not w/my set so far. I'm going to check and I'll do a list here while checking...

Okay...Here's what I have...

Olympics Series

Biathlon
Hockey
Curling
Alpine Skiing

Paralympic Series

Wheelchair Curling

As I said, w/the exception of Snowboarding which was just released this month, I think that's all of them out in circulation, right?

BTW, did all of you know this is a very historic set for two very special reasons?

First time ever that a host country has honoured a Paralympics Games w/a Coin or any kind. (To my knowledge, but I did read that somewhere)

If you look on the reverse of the Quarters, you'll see the Vancouver Olympic or Paralymic logo beside the image of The Queen. This is the first time in the history of Canadian coins where there is anything other than just The Queen on the reverse side of a coin and it still stand as legal tender.

Just thought I'd mention that for those interested. :)

BTW...I've seen a picture of the figure skating quarter over at the Sale and Peletier Message Board in a thread about the quarters. IIRC, it's a pair doing a pairs spiral. I thought it looked great!!

Thanks for the additional info, Tigger! I've been trying to collect these, but I just didn't know how many had already been released. Most of the ones I've seen so far are hockey and curling, but I might have come across a few biathalon ones, too. I just hope I haven't accidentally spent any of them! :p

I was wondering when the figure skating coin would be released and what it would look like, so thanks for letting me know about the link and the photo in the S&P board. I'm disappointed the figure skating coins won't be released until September, but that's one quarter I won't be spending once I get my hands on one! :D

Thanks again!
